Throughout my years as a reading specialist serving at-risk students, I consistently used fairy tales, folk tales, and fables in my instruction. Though short texts, they are rich with opportunities to teach reading skills. I was delighted to experience these same stories in a new way in Antwan Houser’s Fairy Tales & Faith.
The author presents each chapter in this format: The Story, The Moral, The Happily Ever After, The Quest, The Enchantment, The Once Upon a Time, and Mirror, Mirror. He skillfully includes Bible verses, prayers, and questions for discussion and reflection along with the moral of the story.
