First love is not usually forever, but in the case of Carly and Beau, no one else will ever come close in Where Have You Been? by Cynthia Boone. Moving halfway across the country after high school graduation, Beau thinks that ignoring Carly will be the best for both of them. That couldn’t be further from the truth, but long distance relationships at that age, especially with his parents trying to block it, are full of obstacles. After getting together again, knowing that they can make it work, Carly is attacked and Beau’s life threatened. Their lives take completely different paths again, converging many years later after the death of a mutual friend. Beau keeps tabs on Carly through other friends and when some horrible truths are uncovered, rushes to her to try to prevent a disaster. Will the evil that conspired to keep them apart all those years ago succeed now when everything could finally fall into place?

No one ever said life is easy and that is certainly the way Cynthia Boone writes the story of Carly and Beau in Where Have You Been?, Against the Odds Book 1. Boone portrays the sweetest and most innocent love in contrast with the most evil and depraved desire with intense emotion and the deepest longing. Almost overwhelmingly sad at times, the love shared by Carly and her family as well as the heartfelt emotion between Carly and Beau do not let you give up hope that everything will turn out all right in the end. With an amazing revelation, the ending leaves you breathless! This is an excellent story that gives you plenty to cheer for. A beautiful portrayal of living life to its fullest, no matter what circumstances come your way.
