For Little Monster, bedtime is hard, especially when he's afraid that scary things lurk in his closet. His parents insist there's no such thing as people, but he isn't so easily convinced...
My kids who are 4 and almost 2 love this book. Such sweet writing and wonderful illustrations. I can't wait to see what else Michelle King has up her sleeve.
There's No Such Thing as People is a beautifully illustrated book that address a common fear of many children...monsters in the closet. This cute story reverses the role from an afraid child to a little monster who is scared of a person in his closet. The monster continues to call to his parents when he sees signs of a person, and they continue to encourage him that there is not a person in his closet. As little monster is finally falling asleep, a little boy appears on his bed. Little monster soon finds that instead of a scary person, he has made a new friend. This adorable book is a must have for any child's collection!
This is a very high quality children's book that has had a lot or work put into the rhyming scheme and illustrations! The story is a pleasure to read to your child and my 5 year old son loved turning every page and even getting a little scared when he saw the human! This showed me he was completely invested in the story. The illustrations are fantastic and really complement the wonderful writing. Highly recommended for all Children!
A wonderful rhyming bedtime story for little ones who may be afraid of the dark, monsters or people! It is told from a little monster's point of view. He had heard people were scary and mean, then he meets Scottie. A nice book to help little people not be afraid.
Now, as a disclaimer, I was a copyeditor for this book. That said, I didn't alter the part I'm reviewing, which is the content.
This book is a shining example of what a child feels when their fears come alive. In this story, not only is there a moment of loneliness in Little Monster's fear but there's a moment of realization, comfort, and understanding. This story is great for the little ones who need a reminder that it's okay to be afraid, but that even fear is misunderstood. Not only that, but through fear, you can experience so much you wouldn't otherwise.
This is a wonderful book for children, charmingly illustrated and rhymed. Little Monster is afraid of the boy in his closet. This a sweet book for bedtime reading, especially for a child that might have trouble settling down at night or naptime. It comes as an ebook or in paper book and is a great addition to any child's library.
A sweet story that is sure to become a bedtime favorite! The author has put a twist on the "there's a monster in my closet" theme, and the result is a heartwarming story about an unlikely friendship. Kids can relate to Little Monster's fears, and will be reassured by the ending. And they will undoubtedly fall in love with the cuddly illustrations of Little Monster himself!
I really enjoyed reading this book! It was well-written with excellent rhyming. I loved the whole switcheroo of a monster being afraid of a human hiding in his closet. The adorable illustrations brought the monster family to life. This is the perfect book for bedtime reading.
A cute bedtime story about a little monster who is none to excited about his own bedtime and the possibilities of what might be in his closet. This fun story is paired with beautiful illustrations that children will love. It's sure to be a evening favorite!
A book about monsters! But there is nothing scary in this sweet bedtime story. I loved the soft, but detailed illustrations of the monster family. The author's switch on a monster child being afraid of the little boy in his closet is a fun twist, and gives the child who is being read to a different way of looking at and easing his own fears. I definitely recommend the cute little book.
This book tackles so many things in 24 pages! It would be a great read for a child struggling with fear of the dark, but it also showcases the value of tolerance. Living in a society where polarized sides villainize one another, it's so important to instill messages of understanding and common ground. The illustrations are beautiful, and so is the message. Five stars!
What a wonderful illustrated children's book. The illustrations in this story are not short of spectacular and the story flows with each illustration. I love the little monster and I could see him as a Saturday morning cartoon. I loved this book from the first page to the last.
The flip of story from a monster in the closet to a boy in the closet that a monster is scared of is a wonderful touch. I enjoyed the underlining lesson of how fear can make us miss out in so much in life. Nicely told and I can't wait to see what else you do with little monster.
Well, done, Michelle. I hope you have much success with your stories!
This is an adorable book and a great concept! My daughters were not sure of the book at first, but they enjoyed the story. It is a great book to teach kids about friendship and to not judge people (or monsters) by what others say. The illustrations were good and fit well with the story. The only thing I noticed was that the rhyming did not always flow well. There were times the verses did not rhyme perfectly, and the rhyme scheme changed at times. My daughter actually read this book aloud, and with the changing rhyme scheme, she got a little confused. We thought the story was great with a great concept. We thought the story would have been better without the rhyming, but we understand how hard the author worked to make the book rhyme. It's a very hard task to conquer with a children's book and rhyming. We would recommend this book for all children around ages 4-10. Jessica D. Adams, Author
This book was originally written for my oldest son when he was 2 years old. (He's 10 now!) With my inexperience in the publishing world, it took me years of failed attempts to finally get the type of illustrations that captured my vision perfectly. I couldn't be more happy with the final product, and owe thanks to so many friends that helped put everything together and guided me through the process of self-publishing. While it was mostly a personal project, to have it published to be able to read it to my own children, I'm overjoyed that I get to share it with the world as well. I sincerely hope everyone enjoys it as much as my boys and I do! (And I can't wait to see the reviews that come in!)
This adorable little book is a must have for every little one to have on their night stand. The journey of this little monster takes us on a twist of fears that many of us as children or our own children face growing up, only from a monster's point of view--giving us hope and courage to face our fears. Loved this book to pieces and highly recommend it.
What an adorable book! The rhymes are well written and the illustrations are great. I absolutely love the idea behind this book and my children ages 3, 6 and 8 said they LOVED IT! (The older 2 gave it 5 stars and the younger one gave it 12 thumbs up :) Such a creative spin!
