Theodora is a private detective for the police department in Urania, Utah (named when a vein of uranium made it prosperous). Her career as a detective has been largely uneventful until she is handed a case of fourteen missing who have never been found. As she investigates, she discovers a past filled with tragedy, vengeance, and bloodshed as Theodora uncovers a monster the townspeople of Urania helped create even before she even came to live. Worst of all, she discovers that several of the people she knew (and all of the missing) were more involved in creating this beast than anyone would care to admit. Can she save the missing without opening a Pandora's that could ruin Urania by dividing its townspeople or will angry mobs hang her for uncovering a part of their past many people hope would remain buried? At the center of it all is one man with an unusual dream whose part in the town becomes clearer and clearer as the investigation intensifies.
