Relative of Davy Crockett, King of the wild frontier. World traveler. Award winning author. As a native of Chicago, Illinois, Dennis Higgins has a passion for things that are gone but not forgotten, a romance with the past.

Quote: I once had a passionate affair with an Irish lass back in 1871 Chicago. I broke her heart. It just wasn't our time.

He now lived in the Chicago suburbs with his lovely wife, a dog and a couple birds.

Among his influences are: Richard Matheson, Jack Finny, Dean Koontz, Joan Wester Anderson, Peter S. Beagle and Audrey Neffenegger.

Author of the Time Pilgrim series: Katya and Cyrus, Almost Yesterday and Tomorrow's Borrowed Trouble from Whiskey Creek Press. Also my indie books, Parallel Roads (Lost on Route 66) and Steampunk Alice.

Fun, Exciting, Time Travel Novella!

Before I go on with my review of Steampunk Alice by Dennis Higgins, I feel it is fair to disclose, that I am one of the illustrators for this book. However, with that said, I DID NOT read the manuscript prior to the publication. Therefore, my words are not biased and are as true, as if I had not illustrated this book.

Dennis Higgins is an extremely talented, creative writer—from the beginning he captured my attention with this fun and adventurous time travel novella. I literally (could not) put this book down once I had started reading it.

I appreciated the subtle ways this author introduced romance in the story, as well as any mention about sex, describing his characters' thoughts, actions, and emotions in a tasteful way, and definitely, without having a raunchy feel to it.

Case in point: “As the barmaid walked away, Alice was uncomfortable looking at her because she had way too much of herself spilling out of her clothes… especially above the corset area.”
The attraction between ‘Alice Straight’ and ‘Peter Harvey White’ was written in such a manner by the author, to where, I couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next.

I could go on and on with accolades for this author, as this is a brilliantly written time travel book… but don’t take my word for it, buy the book yourself, Steampunk Alice is definitely a creative read that I recommend!

Steampunk Alice is a different kinda of take on Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and it is done beautifully with the main part being set in an alternate 1882 and everything that you could imagine about the Steampunk era to be. The title character of Alice Straight works at Acme Cosmetics and lives a boring life until she meets a new worker Peter White who was born on the other side but decided to move to this universe and world but upon meeting Alice he deiced to bring her across to the other universe were she learned something new about herself as well as grew out of her shell. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes the original  tale and for those who like a parallel universe/time travel adventure.

Alice Straight works a boring, nine-to-five job. Her personal life isn't much better . . . until she meets Peter White. The friendly, tattooed gentleman takes her through a looking glass to a magical, steampunk world on the other side. Alice Straight becomes Steampunk Alice in a place that is not unlike the Wild West. It's here where readers will recognize many characters from the familiar Alice in Wonderland story. They're not quite the same as in the original - Peter White is the White Rabbit, and villain, Mad Haiti, is the Mad Hatter. It's fun to see the similarities. The story is a little bit of romance, a little bit of adventure, and a little bit of fantasy all mixed into one.

Steampunk Alice is a well-written, imaginative story which will appeal to steampunk/fantasy fans.
