Jeanna Janes is a native Kentuckian and avid nature lover. She currently lives in Indiana with her loving and supportive family. As a long-time volunteer at her community's elementary school, her goal is to inspire, educate, and encourage children to read and write at an early age. She has worn many hats in her lifetime: actress, nurse, wife, mother, aunt, and more. The latest hat is that of an author. Jeanna is excited to share her debut book with you and hopes you enjoy the adventure of Seas Apart as much as she enjoyed creating its world, characters, and story.
A pirate story!! I've never read a pirate story before!! So exciting! This is a modern-day adventure about 2 kids who work together to solve a mystery left for them by family members from long ago. Love the detailed story-telling in this book. The second half, particularly, was a race to the end with twist after twist. Vivid writing and a great adventure that will keep readers engaged and wanting more. It would be fun to reread--or read aloud to a class--and map character connections between generations as well as to illustrate visualizations of the vibrantly described locations along the way.
This book has everything my son loves in a book- treasure-hunting adventure in the face of danger, uncovering clues to solve mysteries of the past, and everyday kids who are the heroes of it all. But it also had something that I especially loved as a parent reading this book- involved parents who were part of the adventure! The parents didn't steal the show from the kids, but how refreshing it was to see that they were not clueless bystanders (or nonexistent) as in almost every other middle grade book out there. This book is a gem and I highly recommend it!
