It's hard to be a teenager - especially when you're dead. Josie Reynolds' sweet sixteen was unforgettable, but not in the way that she imagined. The night of her birthday, a fire breaks out in her home and the last thing she remembers is the smoke filling her lungs and the cries of her younger brother and sisters for help. Unable to save them and too badly burned in the fire to leave her room, Josie is constantly haunted by her guilt, watching from the window as life goes on without her. It is only after her mother's death that she discovers the terrible truth that has been hidden from her: Josie didn't survive the fire and she has been a ghost for nearly sixty years. Now, her mentor, Calvin, must help Josie find a way to move on from the worst night of her life before she is stuck in this world forever."
Adria Waters is the author of the Ghost Hunters Society series and has seen ghosts all her life. She loves exploring the paranormal and goes on ghost tours in every place she visits. When she's not hunting ghosts, she loves torturing her family with road trips across the country to see every single sightseeing opportunity in the United States. Adria lives in Missouri with her very patient husband, her not so patient son, two cats who insist that they are human, and various little spirits that pop up to say "hello" once in a while.
I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, but was delighted to follow Josephine along her path as a ghost, to go through the stages of grief with her (a novel concept - those who have passed, grieving), and to experience the flow of "life" as a ghost would. I loved the historical snippets. All in all, I enjoyed the book and loved the ending. Very satisfying.
