Assassin's Heart

Rate this book
Lillie is an assassin. It’s not exactly the life she would have chosen, but she has made the best of it. Until now. Disguised as a servant at the palace, she waits for an opportunity to kill the heir to the throne. Her conscience tells her that killing an innocent man is wrong, but failure to do so will mean her death. Nef, a handsome stable hand, is intrigued by the young red-haired maid that has charmed the animals in his care. He longs to know her better but harbors secrets of his own - secrets that could rock the very foundations of the kingdom. With their lives forfeit, Lillie and Nef must work together to find a way to save themselves, their love, and two thrones from destruction at the hands of an evil overlord.

Isabella Norse scored major "cool mom" points by playing the same video games as her sons and their friends. In these virtual worlds she slayed demons and destroyed machines bent on galactic extermination while simultaneously wooing cocky assassins and sexy aliens. She fell in love with the make-believe worlds and rich characters that inhabited them and now writes her own sci-fi and fantasy tales of love, romance and adventure.

Still a gamer – and still cool – Isabella lives in Georgia with her husband and a herd of rescue cats. She loves to hear from readers! Visit her at www.isabellanorse.com, facebook.com/IsabellaNorseAuthor and Twitter @AuthorIzzy.

***This Book Was Given To Me By The Author In Exchange For An Honest Review***

This is a well written fantasy novel that I enjoyed reading. The characters are strong, especially the female roles and the action is set in the forefront before the romance which worked for me. The world created is believable and the story moves are a good pace but my only complaint is that occasionally the language slips into a more contemporary style and it isn't consistent. It may just be a personal thing but I wasn't sure if it was a deliberate choice or an oversight and for that, and that reason alone it failed to get 5 stars from me.

It is, however, a book I would definitely recommend for fantasy lovers. It is classified as a NA but don't let that put you off!

I'm going to start by saying that a romance book of any kind is not usually what I reach to read; I prefer swords and intrigue to lust. That said, having read Assassin's Heart, I think that I'll be more open to books with a romantic edge to the blade.

Ms. Norse deftly wields a story that darts away from the expected right as you thought that you knew what was going to happen. (I have to confess; I *love* it when that happens). I love that the book is full of strong women who are more than capable of taking care of themselves, and the men strong enough to not stop them. Lillie and Nef easily maneuvered their way into my heart.

There's only one burning question that the author didn't answer: What happens next???

Loved this book, it grabbed my attention and would not let go. It was a great read, and look forward of adding it to my collections of books I enjoy re-reading. Hopefully one day I can get a hard back copy signed by the author. It is something I like to do with my favorite books.

I would give 3.5. Most of the first half of the story was close to boring. It has sweet romantic moments but, I expected a bit more plot and action. It only picked up on the second half. Even then I feel that things happen rather easily.
