Albert is still missing, news bulletins still refer to the Christmas Eve Incident and a growing band of Nazi ghosts still doesn't know how to stay dead. Fourteen months after London hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons, Tyler, Lucy and Melissa are trained, better equipped and working covertly for MI6 to prevent another wave of sinister paranormal forces achieving their own malevolent mission. Humanity's hopes rest with the trio and a small, mysterious device that opens a portal to ghostly dimensions; a device that has secrets but might be all that prevents the rise of the ethereal Third Reich... Also available in this series: The Haunting of Tyler May (book one of the Tyler May series).
Born in Cornwall, Ben first began writing high fantasy as a hobbyist, later working on a series of early-medieval whodunits before self-publishing the Young Adult Tyler May Series.
In addition to his role as an author, Ben is a published songwriter, a published illustrator and a professional graphic designer. He lives in Clevedon (UK) with his wife and daughters. His three daughters were partly responsible for inspiring the main characters of the Tyler May series.
As a visiting author, he runs Creative Writing Workshops in secondary schools, academies and sixth forms. A Sock Full of Bones is the first of his novels to be traditionally published.
The Thieves of Antiquity is a mixed bag with shades of Tomb Raider, Nancy Drew and Indiana Jones. Except here, we have our three young lovelies working for the secret service and amped up with weapons, ghost assistance and of course the mystical ‘Contrapt’. Tyler, Melissa and Lucy are hot on the trail to capture Hitler and his cronies as they have altered time and stolen bodies from young people with the aid of magical gloves. The girls are in a race against time to get these war criminals back in their final graves and keep the Contrapt out of their possession. This is an excellent read for any middle school girl to young adult . Ben Mears really showcases his talent in this one!
I read this one after I read the first one (The Haunting of Tyler May) because it carries on the story. It is very good indeed and very exciting because the girls get themselves into a bit of a mess but get themselves out of it and take care of more of the Nazi ghosts.
The thing I liked most about this is that not everything works out perfectly like in Hollywood movies but they will have to keep trying to catch them all.
You will like this a very lot if you read the first one but you have to read the first one first or it won't make sense, so to speak.
The first book in the Tyler May series is good - this one is great. The tone is darker, the threats more palpable. The action moves along at a blistering pace; our heroines barely have time to apply their make-up before the next brush with death or bout of derring-do. It's one of those books where you reach the end of a chapter and exhale with relief that Tyler and her chums have survived. But will they when you turn the page...?
Can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series.
The first book was great but this book was even better. The plot develops, the style changes and the tension grows. I couldn't put it down. Although this book is aimed at teenagers, as an adult I found it a gripping read. If you have read the first book you need to read this one. If you haven't read the first then read both. I'm so looking forward to reading the next book.
Kept me second guessing all the way through, can't wait for the next one in the series. Enjoyed the fantasy elements in this story. Well written and fast paced.
Wow! This second book has really moved the series on to the next step. Ben has definitely settled in to the story, this book reads very easily and the story flows, I had more problems putting this book down than the last one, the cliff hangers don't feel contrived, but they are there, and you HAVE to keep reading.
I would say it has put the series more in a teen bracket than the previous book, purely by dint of the fact that the girls are now 'agents', but that is no bad thing. The next book really needs to be coming along soon now as I am sitting here on the edge of my seat waiting for it!
