Malphurs, Aubrey. The Dynamics of Church Leadership. Grand Rapids, MI: Baker Books, 1999.

A shepherd reveals God's heart of compassion to include, protect, nurture, lead and teach (Ps 78:70-72; Jer 3:15; Matt 9:36). page 54.

The principal leader-communicator, preacher and pastoral carer is needed. (p39-40)

Core values are the constant, passionate, biblical core beliefs that drive the ministry forward. (p60)

The Great Commission (Matt 28:19-20) reveals the meaning of discipleship: Go, baptize (become part of the community of faith) and teach (process of spiritual development). Mission is a broad, brief, biblical statement of what the ministry is supposed to be doing, and asks, “How can we work with God to build a faithful church?” (p68)

Strategies are the selected processes that determine how each church accomplishes its mission. This entails finding the lost, folding them into the body, and building them up in the faith. The disciple-making process involves the three elements of evangelism, assimilation and maturation; or similarly described as conversion, commitment and contribution; or finding, keeping and building. (p75-77)
