She had to cut this man out of her life

When rally driver Conrad Brandon turned up as a physiotherapy patient at Gala's London clinic, she never expected their professional relationship to develop into a mutual attraction.

She had no right to feel that way about a man who'd destroyed her family's happiness. The indisputable fact was that Conrad Brandon had seduced Gala's brother's fiancee, and then tossed her aside.

What guarantee was there that he wouldn't do exactly the same thing to Gala?

I didn’t really go for this story since I couldn’t like the main characters, but since no one has put in a review, I will try to summarise it.

The heroine, Gala, a physiotherapist at an upscale clinic, gets upset when she finds out that her next patient is the H, Con. Years ago, her brother’s heart was broken when his fiancée left him for the Hero, Con, a race car driver, one week before their wedding. The whole family hates Con even if they have never met him.

Though he is her patient, the heroine treats him with contempt. At this point I actually felt for the Hero since he had no idea why she was treating him in this manner. Not to mention so it’s unprofessional! The Hero is perplexed and annoyed so he kisses her, of course she caves. 🙄 Then he checks out of the clinic. Everyone else likes him and thinks he is a great guy.

She goes on a date with a doctor from her clinic. The hotel they go to for dinner ends up belonging to the Hero and he sees them in the lounge. He manoeuvres it so that they have dinner with him and this other woman, the heroine is naturally annoyed with the turn of events, but after being plied with wine and good food, they are all enjoying the evening and go to a disco. At the disco, the Hero arranges it so that the OW (who is his employee) dances with the doctor while he dances with the heroine. They seem to have a good time and start kissing on the dance floor. She suddenly realizes what she is doing, so to ‘escape’ she tells him to show her the hotel rooms! 😳Sounds more like encouragement than escape...so naturally they start kissing in the room and almost do the deed. They come to some sort of an understanding and agree to go on a date on the weekend.

The heroine goes home for a visit and gets a confronted by the brother, who is feeling betrayed since she was seen out with the Hero kissing on the disco dance floor. She denies everything, but nevertheless goes on her date with the Hero. The Hero takes her to his home which is beautiful and they seem to be having a lovely time until she gets stricken by guilt, and runs away from him without explanation. A few days later, she shows up in his office, finally giving him and explanation for her blow hot blow cold attitude. He is shocked to find out her connection to someone in his past but when he tries to give an explanation, she refuses to listen.

Soon after, she gets a patient who mentions that his girlfriend knows her. It turn out to be her brother’s cheating ex. So she goes to see this woman, who is an opportunistic witch, and learns that she was the one who ran after the Hero, while he wanted nothing to do with her after finding out that she was engaged to someone else. So idiot heroine once again goes running back to the Hero, while he is in the middle of a race, to confess all including her undying love (So very cringe-worthy). The Hero is naturally displeased that she so readily believes a skank while hardly allowing him to explain. As punishment, he convinces her to continue the race as his navigator, and under the guise of being engaged to him! This suddenly looked like it was turning into a revenge plot, except sadly, not enough pages left.

Whilst in the car, as they were racing, the Hero confesses his love and proclaims that he is retiring from racing now that she will be his wife and they plan to have a family. Oh the parents and the brother are now all fine with everything since the skank ex turned up and tried to get the brother back. The brother finally saw the light, so all’s well ends well.

I didn’t really like the story since I couldn’t like the heroine. She was supposed to be an accomplished intelligent woman, but she acted like an idiot.

Ooooh, okay, this was awful. Not on the writing level, it wasn't great writing but it was perfect adequate for formula romance, but the story was exactly the sort of terrible thing that everyone *assumes* when I tell them 'I've been reading a lot of old Harlequins lately!'.

Gala is a physiotherapist and able to be a competent adult woman but that of course makes her an 'ice princess' and thus very insecure about her ability to have relationships, and she has overbearing brothers who won't forgive her for dating the guy that was The Other Man in his relationship (because it's the fault of the other person if your partner chooses them over you) and then the guy turns out to be a domineering psychopath except I think it's supposed to be romantic that she's trapped in a car with him while he's awful to her? Whatever, I was skimming by that point. NOT my type of book at all, ugh.

Ice Princess was one of the first romance novels I ever read. (I was perhaps ten and I borrowed it from my aunt's shelf after I ran out of age-appropriate books during a trip to Jamaica.) I distinctly recall that I loathed the hero for his misogyny and aggression, and I think it's a classic example of non-consent as love in 70s/80s romance. I appreciated her resistance to a point, but I think she annoyed me, too. I was not rooting for them and I doubt very much I'd feel a lot different now.

I enjoyed this novel thoroughly. I found both main characters' professions enticing as a physiotherapist and rally driver and I always love myself an enemies-to-lovers trope. The miscommunication was understandable and naturally the fact that Con kept coming back even when Gala chased him away, warmed my heart.

كانت غالا فليتشر تعرف بأميرة الثلج , وحده كونارد براندون قال عنها حرباء برية, لم يكن ذلك مستغرباً من شخص مثل براندون فهو متغطرس , مغرور ولن يردعه شيء.
