Love this book, how it has illustrations of Roman-Greco warriors as a way of openly mocking the Roman-Greco mentality of military force as a means to an end...which I think empowers this story. King Sam and King Oscar have issues over who has ownership of the apples on King Sam's tree which leans into Oscar's courtyard. They decide to go to battle on 5th of July, which happens to be (gasp) King Sam's birthday! So he's running around trying to solve his dilemma: party first, then war, or will it be vice versa? You gotta read this book as a reminder that more often we wage war for the dumbest reasons, like: to "preserve our economy". How bout THEM apples!
