Finding Mr. Wrong

Rate this book
He’s nobody’s definition of Mr. Right—but that might make him perfect.

Matthew Hart is heir to the family fortune and owner of Hart & Home. When a near-death experience has him fretting over the future, he decides he needs a husband, and not just any husband—an appropriate man to protect the Hart legacy. The last thing Matthew expects is to cross paths with Jax Foster, his first love and the boy who crushed his heart when he disappeared.

Jax is unlikely to make Matthew’s list of suitable candidates. Bad boy, vagabond, deep in debt, with a father who can’t keep out of trouble, Jax has nothing to offer—except his heart and a second chance at the romance they never got to explore.

Another Dreamspun Desires win!

Now, I know I might not overly gush when it comes to this series as a whole but I want to preface this that a 3.5 is a good rating for me. I know this type of fare is supposed to suspend belief somewhat, engage in possible drama, exaggerate the common tropes, all the while remaining an easy low angst read with hopefully a good dash of sexy. Rest assured that this pretty much fits the bill.

As the blurb says, Matthew is head of a multimillion dollar furniture business, and when he has an unexpected brush with death, he realizes that he’s all alone and perhaps, maybe he should be laying down some roots. Hence, on a whim he enlists his bff and assistant Adam to help him find a suitable husband. When Adam asks him to list the characteristics of his dream man, Matthew can’t help but remember his long lost love Jax. They were thick as thieves in their formative teen years, until one day Jax disappeared without a word or a trace. Since then, Matthew has always wondered whatever happened to him.

Unbeknownst to Matthew, Adam does some great detective work, and lo and behold, he discovers Jax is actually in the same city trying to make it as a starving artist - an artist who’s just the answer to make a custom piece of high end furniture for a very rich top client. How convenient right? What ensues is Matthew and Jax reconnecting, each with their own reasons for hesitating and doubting and being all insecure. However, first love is something that is not easily forgotten, and Matthew and Jax quickly become an item despite their baggage.

This was narrated by Andrew McFerrin, and he does a great job as usual. It doesn't hurt at all that this excels at the sweet feels between Matthew and Jax, where they never stopped loving each other despite being apart for 20 years. Just be prepared for infuriating family members on both sides being infuriating and some zany dramatics that threaten both their lives. Like I said, this checks off all the boxes that I believe the Dreamspun line aims to achieve. One isn’t supposed to take any of these stories too seriously, so just enjoy the easy sexy read that this is and watch how Matthew and Jax get a second chance at true love.

Matthew and Jax were childhood best friends, as well as boyfriends, and Matthew thought they were always going to be together ... until Jax and his father disappeared one day when Matthew was 15. Twenty years later, Matthew is running the family business - a very successful high-end furniture and life-style company - but his love life is much less successful. That is, until he meets Jax again, now an accomplished artisan commissioned by Hart & Home to create a custom glass-etching for a client.

While I liked the bones of this story, I ended up feeling like there was just a bit too much going on. The title refers to initial plans to find a husband for Matthew, one who could inherit the business and carry on the family legacy and after hearing about Matthew's story, his assistant Adam and his father track down Jax to set their plan in motion. Of course, on paper Jax is more Mr. Wrong than Mr. Right.

But then there's an over-the-top attempted murder plot, a gambling addiction, a kidnapping, a mafia "runner" named Rai, a double-cross leading to a horrendous Big Misunderstanding between the two MCs, and the set-up for what I'm assuming will be the next book about Adam and Rai. Also, while I liked the second chance love between Matthew and Jax, the situation with Jax's father seemed far too dysfunctional.

I received an ARC from Dreamspinner Press in exchange for an honest review.

Oh yeah! This is fluff done right and done so well within the Dreamspun line. This book is full of first loves and lost, second chance romance, great dialogue, an over the top story arc that had me glued to the page, a charming secondary cast, hot sex, romance out the wazoo and well, a hope for a second book with two men who lit up the page with their chemistry!

Ack.
This.
Was.
Good.

Matthew Hart is in a good place in life. He’s taken over the family business of Hart & Home from his father and not only brought the furniture company into the new age of technology but they are thriving financially. Matthew has nothing in life to bring his spirits down...that is until one day, lunch from his favorite place ends him in the hospital. This harrowing medical experience has shaken Matthew and made him realize, he doesn’t want to live his life alone anymore, alone and unloved.

When Matthew trusts his personal assistant Adam with the truth about his lunch and the oddity of his epi pen not being where it should have, he begins to worry. Also with this trust in Adam, Matthew lays his heart on the table lamenting his bachelor status and his new need to find someone to spend his life with ‘til death do they part. But Matthew doesn’t know where to look for a possible husband and when Adam questions him about what he likes in a man, we learn about Matthew’s first love, Jax Foster.

Matthew and Jax met when they were ten years old with Jax saved Matthew from his routine beatings from school bullies. It was this first meeting that solidified Matthew’s sexuality and Jax became a list of first for Matthew. Granted, the boys lives were vastly different with Matthew’s being one of influence and Jax’s being from the wrong side of the tracks but the boys fell in love as much as two young men could. But this love, this deep and first love was shattered when Jax disappears and leaves Matthew heartbroken and never able to fully get over Jax. You what they say about first loves, right?

I have to take a moment and say how much I adored Matthew’s assistant Adam from the beginning because once he hears Matthew’s story, he goes into full romance novel matchmaking and you know where the story is going to lead and it did not disappoint. Adam is not just Matthew’s personal assistant but he is his best friend and a friend of the family. Adam only wants the best for Matthew even if he has to push his best friend out of his comfort zone to get closure or win the heart of his first love and live happily ever after.

When Adam and Martin, Matthew’s father, decide Matthew needs to oversee an artist's commission for one of their very important clients, Matthew is unprepared when he finds a brilliant glass etcher who’s kept something from Matthew’s past along with Matthew’s heart. You see, Martin and Adam only want the best for Matthew and knowing he needs to see Jax again gives them ample opportunity to throw the men together, even if neither of them knew it was happening. Though Matthew is angry and refuses to listen to Jax when they meet face to face after 20 years, the fierce emotion he portrays gives all of us hope because you know, fighting is great foreplay.

Told in the dual POV of Matthew and Jax, we get the latter MC after the men meet again 20 years later. Jax has never forgotten about Matthew all these years but what can a man who is forever in debt, never been out of the country and has who has a gambling/con addicted father ever fit into the world of Matthew Hart who is on the cover of Forbes Magazine? Sure, this has the “I decided to never contact you because I am no good for you” bit but I am a reader who loves that because it always gives ample opportunity for the MC’s to hash out where they are wrong and what really can work for them as a couple.

So, as Matthew oversees the commission, he and Jax begin to build a new friendship while each man learns how truly talented their first love is. As they learn about one another over meals disguised as meetings or overseeing of the project, Jax sweetens the deal by taking the first step back into Matthew’s heart with a piece of lemon cake and a promise to hear Jax out. This promise leads them on a date and the hearing of honest confessions.

Goodness. But I loved these two. I loved that they are both grown adult men and yet it’s almost as if you can feel who they were as young men in love. It’s palpable in their past and it’s amazing to witness in the present. Jax’s reason for leaving Matthew was heartbreaking but his fierce determination to keep the boy he loved safe was so lovely even at that young age. Jax has never forgotten Matthew and after they hear truths and leave the past behind, it’s time for them to get down, I mean, get on with this new part of their lives and possibility of a relationship.

Was it too much to hope for that Jax could be his Mr. Right? Granted, Jax didn’t really seem to fit the title of Mr. Right, but maybe he’d been looking at it all wrong. Maybe what Matthew needed was a little Mr. Wrong.

I will tell you, this book is pure fluff and I want to dive back in right away. This line from Dreamspinner has had me in its grasp from the first book and I don’t think I will ever get enough. I used to adore the books I would borrow (without permission) from my sister and soak up the romance in the categoricals she kept beside her bed and now, I get that same feeling back as I read stories of two men doing everything to fall in love and have their happily ever after. Call me an easy reader but I am reader who truly enjoys the romance these books give me and this one, this one falls perfectly in line with my favorites.

Anyway. Matthew and Jax while falling easily back into the comfort of being around one another, fall hard and fast but jealousies from irritating people lead to a story arc that is a bit over the top but one I couldn’t stop reading. It gave a bit of action and surprise to a book that was very low angst and sweet and brought it back down again with the warm embrace that is the true romance of Matthew and Jax.

Finding Mr. Wrong was the perfect read for a Sunday spent snuggled up in bed with dogs and a cup of tea, my favorite way to read. The book had everything I needed to put a smile on my face, a shift in my hips during the sexy parts, butterflies in my stomach as Jax and Matthew fall in love and a sigh as they fight for their HEA.

Second Chance romance with a little bit of everything.

There's some dirty talk and sexy, hot encounters. There's a bit of intrigue and suspense. There's some mystery surrounding attempted murder, a kidnapping, and all kinds of meddling family and friends, all of which results in some action.

Finding Mr. Wrong is from both Matthew and Jax's points of view, which does give the reader a better understanding of how sorry Jax is for the circumstances surrounding his original abandonment of Matthew and why he's stayed away for so long.

Why am I not rating this higher? Because I had a personal issue with the part of the storyline where Jax enables his father constantly that definitely colored my own enjoyment.

Obviously your mileage may vary.

However, the writing is solid, the romance and mystery are good, and though there is a bit of misunderstanding and some mistakes resulting from a combination of a lack of trust and outside interference, everything clears up in the end, including the mystery (with a surprise confession!) and a HFN.

Charlie Cochet is always a must-read for me so when I saw this book, I jumped on it. This is a standalone Contemporary, which is something that this author is different from what she is known for, so I was eager to try it.

This book definitely had a different feel to it. The character’s narration isn’t as upbeat or bouncy. Their personalities are a bit different from one another so I had to get used to that. I usually look forward to a lot of cute banter between the two main characters and while we get that from Jax and Matthew, it’s not the focal point of this book.

The romance is pleasant between the two. There’s a touch of seriousness surrounding this entire book. I would say a little bit of angst as well, but it isn’t too deep where you feel like you are drowning.

In this opposites attract story, you’ll find a lot of characteristics of Cochet signature style. I look forward to seeing if a series will come from this.

Well that was sweet...

Matthew Hart is the heir to Hart & Home Furniture he's had a good life raised by a loving and doting father after his mother passed away he grew up not wanting for material things or for love.

Jax Foster was Matthew's friend and his first love until he disappeared without a word one day without so much as a by your leave for Matthew. Matthew was heartbroken...Jax had been his world...his best friend, his first love, everything a young man of 15 could have ever thought he'd want.

When Matthew has an allergic reaction to peanut oil that lands him in the hospital...because his epi pen magically disappeared he takes stock of his life and realizes that he loves his friends, his dad, his job but it's not enough. He wants something more and that's when Matthew and his PA and good friend Adam make a list so that Adam can find him, his Mr. Right.

It's when Adam gets a little help from Matthew's father that things really get out of hand because suddenly not only is Jax Foster back in town but when Matthew gets sent to meet with the contractor for a piece commissioned by one of Hart & Home's biggest clients the last thing Matthew expects is to come face to face with the person who broke his heart all those years ago.

I enjoyed this story it was sweet and watching Matthew and Jax get reacquainted with each other as Matthew resist letting Jax explain what happened all those years ago that caused him to disappear...events that could repeat themselves thanks to meddling family on both sides...family who's intentions are less than honorable.

I was a bit frustrated by Jax's father but in spite of that I loved that Jax stuck by his dad and continued to see the good in him. He wasn't a bad man more a case of a good man making bad choices and Jax was able to see this which also speaks to the type of person that Jax was. Unfortunately the same can't be said for Matthew's cousin and his biotch of a wife...like seriously somebody get that woman a Prozac or two...maybe some Zoloft? Because damn she's got issues...serious, issues.

I really liked Matthew and Jax and as a couple they worked for me and while Matthew was initially resistant to resuming any kind of relationship with Jax I liked that it didn't become a drawn out and protracted state of affairs and we got to see Matthew and Jax re-ignite the love they had for each other a love that has stayed with both of them over the years just waiting for a chance to once again burn brightly.

As much as I liked Matthew and Jax and as steamy hot as things were between them. What I'd really love would be Adam's story...well, actually I'd like to see a story about Adam and Rai. Adam is feisty and I'm pretty sure that Rai would make a good tree for him to climb.

I'm a fan of Charlie Cochet's writing and Andrew McFerrin has done a wonderful job of bringing her words to life and giving voice to these characters. 'Finding Mr. Wrong' was a fun, short, low angst story about first loves, second chances and happily ever afters.

Anyone who follows my reviews knows that I love these Dreamspun Desires stories—they rarely disappoint, and this one is outstanding. I’m not sure if it was the vocalizations given by narrator Andrew McFerrin as I listened to the audio version, or if it was the character development sketched in by author Charlie Cochet, or if it was the theme of two young boys, separated as teens and now reunited but with huge obstacles still to overcome.

In any event, it’s definitely worth listening to (or reading for those who don’t have access to audiobooks.) Sweet little Matthew Hart has grown up to take over the family business of Hart & Home. He’s not only taken over, he’s expanded it and works with craftsmen from all over the world to bring custom pieces to his clients. It’s due to one of these orders that his father locates the perfect glassworks artist to satisfy a client’s needs. Surprise! The artist turns out to be the young man over whom Matthew cried himself to sleep when the boy and his dad disappeared years ago. In fact, in all this time, Matthew has never found another man to take his place.

Enter Jax Foster, who has the unfortunate luck of having Dale Foster as his dad. Dale is a gambler who can’t shake his addiction and it’s the reason they left town years ago. It’s also the reason Jax has never contacted Matthew. Too worried about the thugs that could show up at his door to collect from his father on any given day.

But Matthew’s father and his personal assistant, Adam, want to see Matthew happy and they don’t want the company going to Matthew’s Uncle Bryce. They want to see him happily married with a family of his own and the man of his dreams. Can the dream come true? Well, maybe, after the attempts on Matthew’s life and the thugs that come after Dale and Jax are dealt with. One must listen (or read) to find out.

This is really very well done—as I said—from the writing through the narration. It’s a pleasure to find a story that hits the spot to warm my heart on a dreary day. This one is it. Highly recommended.

Note: This audiobook was provided to me through Hearts on Fire Reviews in exchange for an impartial review.

Update 3/26/25: Reread this yesterday/today and couldn't put it down. Perfect short reunited MM romance with two incredible characters and a secondary who should definitely get his own story, (Adam) and, if possible, with the bad-guy-turned-helping-hand, Ry Santos, as his own true love. Yum.

Matchmaking.
It’s equal parts terrifying and exhilarating for the match-e. Rambling a list of desirable traits and desires and hoping the match-er gets it right is risky. What are the chances of success? How many failed attempts before the winner walks into the sunset holding hands with their happily ever after? Let’s find out….

Matthew thought he was content with his life until a brush with death had him re-evaluating things. Although he’s tried to convince himself he’s ‘just fine’ with his bachelor status…he’s not. He wants someone to come home to every night. He wants a partner to care for and to have someone care for him. Basically, he wants a man and he wants to keep him. But he’s running a company and far too busy to date, so he assigns his assistant to find him “Mr. Right”. Another important tidbit we discover during the matchmaking meeting is a piece of Matthew’s past. He gave his heart away many years ago and in return his first love broke his heart, abandoning him without a word one day. Which explains why he’s never pursued a relationship since. His assistant Adam is smart and resourceful and doesn’t disappoint with his sneaky matchmaking skills. Even though everything about Jax opposes Matthew’s dream man, he’s the best candidate. Why? Because he loves him, always has, and love trumps everything.

What's to like: The story takes off quickly and never wavers. It’s steady and entertaining from start to finish. This is something I’ve come to rely on when I open a book by Mrs. Cochet. I enjoyed both Matthew and Jax, as well as the secondary characters. Especially Matthew’s assistant, Adam, who’s charming and hilarious. I felt the foreshadowing of a spin-off with Adam and I’m very much looking forward to it. I think his own potential bad boy is going to give him a run for his money! The cast was fairly small and easy to handle, allowing the reader to focus on the story. And what a good story it is!

What's to love: I’m always drawn to second chance stories and I was thrilled when I realized this story was about two men reuniting. Not only was it about a couple of best friends brought back together after nearly two decades apart, but they were also first loves. *sigh* First love, second chances, and the complications of meshing two very different lives of two very different men produces this delightful tale. A bit of adrenaline surges into play and the heat factor was just enough in my opinion. When the shadows of Jax’s past threatening to destroy their fragile reconnection I was riveted to their story and couldn’t put it down. Jax wishes he could be enough for Matthew, that he could be his Mr. Right, but that’s just not him. He’s wrong for Matthew, at least according to that paper. But sometimes, Mr. Wrong is exactly….right.

Beware of: A sugary sweet reconciliation. A lifelong addiction that paved an unfair and unjust life for a son with a massive heart. And a sprinkle of improbability here and there.

The book is for: A young broken heart never fully healed because there’s only one person with the magic touch. If you enjoy the beauty of second chances and favor fluff over angst, you’ll want to make note of this exhilarating love connection.

I haven’t read much from Charlie Cochet, and was very happy to get this charming second chance romance. Coming from vastly different backgrounds, Matthew and Jax’s characters fit quite well together, and enhanced by having both POV’s. Matthew is wealthy but down to earth, unpretentious, and loyal to his family and employees. Jay is a gifted artist but very insecure about both his ability to be part of Matthews life and future repercussions from his dad’s terrible gambling addiction. Unfortunately, these qualities allow their emotions and actions to be manipulated by people with bad intentions.
The story is populated with strong secondary figures, including Martin, Matthew’s dad, and Adam, his executive assistant. Martin and Adam’s machinations were behind the reunion and Adam remained crucial to the narrative throughout the book. Ms. Cochet’s trademark humorous dialogue peppers the narrative, like Jax’s thoughts when confronted with Matthew’s opulent penthouse:
He’d never seen a fridge that told you the weather and played videos. “I’m kind of afraid to touch it. It’s not going to tase me or something because I’m not cleared for access?”
There was an interesting plot, with meddling relatives, disastrous misunderstandings, suspense and danger. It’s not a terribly complex plot but it provides a little surprise twist and obscures the exact identity behind the trouble. A less than savory character is a later addition to the cast, and may indicate a future sequel for Adam. It’s a fun, sexy, adventurous little romance that I really enjoyed reading.

I’m going to be very upfront here – I totally bounced off this book. When I hit page 30, I wanted to set it down and walk away. It happened again about page 60ish. I really don’t like a DNF, so I did some skimming, but it was a struggle to complete.

So what happened at page 30 that totally turned me off? We know Matthew Hart is an all-around Good Guy: he cares for his employees, he’s passionate about his work, he’s close to his family, and he wants someone to love and to love him back. After a near-fatal allergic reaction, Matthew reveals to his closest friend and personal assistant Adam that he was in love when he was eleven to Jax, then aged 13. But Jax broke Matthew’s heart when he suddenly disappeared, never heard from again.

Sweet? Right? Totally sweet!

Fast forward – the missing Jax is found by Adam and Matthew’s father (because they care about Matthew’s happiness) and Matthew is maneuvered into meeting his long lost childhood crush/love after TWENTY YEARS. Instead of “Oh My GOSH! Jax! How can it be?!? Where have you been?!? What happened?!” Matthew punches him in the face for leaving and not contacting him again.

Ah…excuse me? But they were eleven and thirteen respectively. ELEVEN. Jax’s trailer was found burned down when Matthew was ELEVEN. Kids get pulled out of school, move, things happen suddenly all the time and as adults we know that even when we couldn’t understand as a kid. So Matthew greets this long lost friend, this “first love”, by punching them in the face?

What happened to Mr. Understanding? Mr. Always in Control? Mr. Reasonable? Unfortunately, that didn’t set the book off on the right foot for me and I struggled with a variety of aspects:

• There was a twenty year separation during key life defining moments (high school, college, building a career, staying alive, a father with mental health issues). No. You do NOT know this person any more. You remember who the person *was* but you really don’t know the person *now*.
• The (over) use of the word “silly”. I associate this word with something girls would say to each other. Not a 32 year old man. Repeatedly.
• Totally my quirk here: way too many tears. Total turn-off.
• I never really saw Matthew as "Mr. Wrong". It just didn't gel for me.
• The romance between Rai and Adam happened way to fast.
• There are other points that happen toward the end that just weren’t realistic for me, but I won’t name them here citing spoilers. While I disagree with the ending, I don’t want to ruin it for someone who may enjoy this more than I.

Ultimately, this story just wasn’t my cuppa tea. While the items above were turn-offs, I know they appeal to others. And there’s only one way to find out if a book will grab your fancy: go read it and decide for yourself.

I loved the way Charlie can make the sweetest and endearing love story and still pack it up with action galore (mostly near the end). It's not your regular Contemporary it has it's own punch of adrenalin which leaves you not only waiting for the HEA but for the big reveal of the villain as well. While Matthew and Jax had their own issues as a couple, there are still more matters of life and death for them deal with before they can truly reclaim their HEA.

Matthew Hart and Jax Foster have been best friends since they were 10 years old. At 15 they already knew they were in love yet that same year Jax disappeared leaving a broken hearted Matthew. It's been 20 years and now, wanting to find his own "Mr. Right" his best friend conspires with his father to find him the one who took his heart all these years ago. He might not be "Mr. Right" considering the life Matthew is leading but truthfully, once he falls right back into Jax's hands he doesn't care about any of that. He just wants to keep him by his side.

Jax Foster's life have always been difficult and mostly temporary. His father might love him dearly but his gambling problem has caused him a lot of heart ache and physical ache during the years even before he was forced to leave his heart behind with Matthew. Now he is back in town but his father's latest troubles is going to to cost him everything he has built. Jax is a very promising and talented glass artist but finding who to sell those and fighting to keep him and his father barely breathing above water is taking it's toll. That's when Matthew stumbles into his studio when his family's business - dealing with unique high end furniture - manages a deal between Jax and one of their prestige costumers.

Matthew might be VERY wealthy but he is missing someone by his side, someone to love, someone to care for. Jax is the one he has ALWAYS wanted and now he is in his grasp if he can only reassure him he doesn't care about money. So what if he has so much and Jax doesn't. But for Jax it's different, his pride won't allow him to accept Matthew's help no matter what and from there too many things get complicated.. but it's not just about them, it's WAY more complicated with the attempt on his life he suffered right before he met Jax.

I really enjoyed this one. It was a fast paced reading. Matthew and Jax were sweet together but I also enjoyed the other interaction like Matthew and his best friend Adam - who (from following Charlie's website) is going to get his own book somewhere in the future.. maybe with Rai? That would be great!

Matthew Hart may seem to have it all as CEO of an incredibly high-end design business, but the reality is far from that. He is lonely, and with the shadow of his first lost love still hanging over him from his boyhood, it is increasingly difficult for him to find anyone to measure up to that boy he still bears a torch for from so long ago. But the reality is Jax broke his heart the day he up and disappeared, leaving Matthew to question if Jax ever truly felt anything for him at all.

All his life, Jax has been picking up after his debt-ridden, gambling addicted father. Sure, his dad has a good heart, but telling that to the mobsters out for his father’s blood and last cent is not easy or effective. Now, on the cusp of a life-changing job that also brings Matthew back into Jax’s life, his dad once more has gambled away every cent they have. But this time Jax has more to lose by running away again, for he has Matthew to consider, and after finally coming clean about his disappearance, it looks as though the two men have a second chance. However, someone is not happy over them finding each other once more, and the result could be deadly for them both.

Finding Mr. Wrong had everything going for it to make it a wonderfully sweet romance about second chances. Both Matthew and Jax were incredibly likeable and believable characters, and the circumstances surrounding their absence from each other over the years made for some thrilling action that helped this story move swiftly. Their chemistry was undeniable and made this couple one of my favorites almost immediately. I really liked this story, until the very end when two different plot points literally threw me for a loop.

Without spoiling this story by going into too much detail, the first strange moment was the reaction by Matthew’s assistant to the mob guy who Jax called on for help. Doing a complete three-sixty, emotionally, Matthew’s assistant went from spitting mad and hating the enforcer to falling into his arms. It literally made my head spin. It felt so forced and seemed to indicate that the author might be toying with creating a sequel featuring these two guys, but what an incredibly contrived and awkward way to signal that, if indeed that was the intent at all.

The second had to do with the revelation of who was behind the life threatening accidents that befell Matthew. First, it was done at an well attended soiree, at a truly strange moment in the novel, and secondly, when the police arrived it was unclear as to how they managed to appear at just the right moment. Again, it was such a forced solution to this story that I was completely thrown off by it. Here was this well written, lovely romance that had a bit of spice and mystery going for it when, suddenly, these two heavy-handed scenes interfered in a huge way. I was so disappointed by the way the author chose to wrap up the mystery portion of the novel, and felt the ending was a bit of an afterthought after reading the rest of this well-crafted novel.

Although these two scenes really jolted me, I can honestly say I still loved the coupling of Jax and Matthew. They were rather magical together, and their story was delightful to read. In the end, Finding Mr. Wrong was still a sweet romance that just fell a bit short of being a cohesive and believable novel.

Finding the right person to share your life with is not always easy – and in Matthew and Jax’s case it proves to be exceedingly difficult. Not because they simply haven’t met, but because there are a few obstacles in the way that prove to be extremely difficult to overcome. First is the fact that they have history between them that gets in the way of their feelings. Second, there is the fact that Matthew is super rich and sophisticated and Jax, while a talented artist, sees himself as useless and inferior. And as if that weren’t enough, there are mysterious forces at work that are trying to keep them apart. The result of this exciting mix of elements is an emotional love story interwoven with business dealings and a fight for survival that had my heart beating faster.

Matthew seems to have it all. He is successfully running the family business, he lives in an exclusive penthouse, and his parents love and support him. Oh, and his personal assistant, Adam, has become a true friend over the years and will do anything to make Matthew happy. Including some matchmaking that had me laughing out loud. But back to Matthew – it is obvious to anyone but him that he is lonely, yet it takes a close encounter with a severe allergy attack to make Matthew see what is missing in his life. But the ingenious list of suitable potential Mr. Rights that Adam comes up with is not the solution – bad boy Jax, the man Matthew was in love with (and abandoned by) when they were teenagers is the one who still owns Matthew’s heart.

Jax is in deep trouble, and has been for years. Not due to any fault of his own, but because his father can’t control his gambling. And Jax is too loyal and good a guy to abandon the man who raised him, PTSD-caused difficulties and all. Jax never wanted to leave Matthew, and has been pining for him for years, but Jax’s self-confidence is almost nonexistent and he doesn’t think he is in any way suitable to be Matthew’s partner and equal. Hence, Jax thinks of himself as "Mr. Wrong".

The moment these two men meet again, Jax having been hired as an artist by Matthew’s father, it is clear that both men still love each other. They need to start talking about the past though, which is a lot more difficult than you’d think. There is a lot of pain on both sides, and the perceived inequality between them in terms of money proves to be a formidable barrier. Added to some family issues on Matthew’s side and new money problems caused by Jax’s father, yet again, and the budding reunion is almost over before it begins.

If you like reunions that succeed despite monumental problems, if you enjoy watching two men battle the forces that seem determined to keep them apart, no matter how much they love each other, and if you’re looking for a read that is as entertaining, exciting, and suspenseful as it is romantic, then you will probably like this novel as much as I do. I loved every second of it!

I think it's so tough to write second chance romances, because it has be done well. There has to be something that kept them apart, but that is not too much to overcome. In this case, I do think that aspect was done well. However, I didn't like the multiple storylines and Jax's father just didn't make me feel all that sympathetic. I loved the secondary characters, like Adam and Rai.

I received a copy to read and review for Wicked Reads

I really enjoyed this book. You have two boys who were best friends as kids, experimented, fell in love and where torn apart. This book had a little bit of angst and a lot of love. Matthew and Jax are from different walks of life but that has never been an issue with Matthew, he has always loved Jax. When they unexpectedly reconnect after several years you could tell that things were gonna start flying. Matthew's assistant Adam and Matthew's father find Jax after Matthew tells Adam he thinks he wants a man for keeps. There is no denying there is chemistry between Jax and Matthew. I love how they each thought of each other over the years and kept mementos and I loved that Jax still remembered about the lemon cake. This was a sweet love story with a little angst at the end but it was all worth it. Great story.

I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

Little bit classic fairy tale, little bit daytime soap opera - this book plays with familiar romance tropes for an fun, exciting story.

Matthew is another implausibly young, successful and wealthy billionaire. Beset by scheming family members and supported by his loyal employees, Matthew sets out to find a husband and make an heir so his company doesn’t fall into the hands of his villainous cousin (yes - I did say this was a soap opera). Matthew is likeable and heroic but the character development is pretty superficial and he never really becomes more than a sexy ideal.

Jax is a talented and undervalued artist struggling to make ends meet. Since childhood, every attempt to succeed has thwarted by his father’s gambling addiction. Jax is also the scholarship kid Matthew fell in love with as a schoolboy. Again, Jax is sexy as hell but he doesn’t really develop beyond his hard luck story or his role as Matthew’s ill judged ‘bit of rough’. Jax is a little more proactive than Cinderella, his past isn’t quite as sordid as Vivian’s and he is definitely not as innocent as poor Anastasia but we’ve seen his character more than a few times in the world of romance.

The relationship between Jax and Matthew is pretty formulaic but they are sweet together and the chemistry between them is pretty hot.

I think this is Charlie Cochet’s attempt at light and fluffy. Even so, she has added a little attempted murder, an exciting kidnapping and a bit of a mob connection. And this is a little bit sexier than most of the Dreamspinners Desires books. There are also a few wonderful moments where the traditional romance formula slips and we get some of the sarcastic banter I love in Cochet’s THIRDS books. As Cochet’s THIRDS books are a little more my style than the Desires books, I loved the slight genre subversions and the hints of personality beyond the formulaic storytelling. However, I do think fans of classic romance will love Matthew and Jax.

Finding Mr Wrong is a story about old lovers reunited by very persistent family and friends. The concept of the story was really nice, with Matthew being a successful business man and Jax an unknown artist, coming together through their work. I do have to warn you that this is a story purely meant for entertainment and/or comfort, because if you get into this story expecting an in depth reading, you’ll be disappointed. The plot is great, but it’s pretty unrealistic and cheesy. I also got the feeling that Matthew was way younger than he appeared, which made it a bit weird to think of him as a good business man. The cheesiest part (and this might be considered a spoiler, so be warned) was that Jax’s father was always in trouble because of his gambling problems, that shady people had to come knock on his door to collect money. We all know that these events usually end up in violence, and Jax even described one time when it did, but now there’s a guy collecting and he’s really flexible and even flirts with Jax. Because of this I felt like the story could’ve been a lot more suspenseful, which is why I rated it 3 stars.

Despite of all cinderfella vibes that was obvious in this story (well, I grew up with Cinderella anyways), I really did enjoy this book. All the second chance really works for me.
Some of this story were a little bit 'too much'. Including what's Jax experienced as a kid because of something his father's idiotic behavior. Including Adam and Rai things (but, that was really cute. I know some people will despise it.LOL).
Things with Jax and Matty easily solved (thanks to Adam!), but they still need to polish their communication skills in the future. Starting with 'trust each other', because you know it that 'assumption is a mother of all f%^& up!)
This was like, a cinderella dreams comes true, a fairy tales, but somehow, could happen in real life (not).
If you're into this kind of story, go for it, this is sweet and adorable and 'dreamy'.
I wonder, would Rai and Adam get their own story? Interesting because Adam is so adorable and Rai's a 'runner'. Complicated.
Recommended for dreamers like me :)

3.5, rounded up.

This story had a solid plotline, but suffered from a bit of overload with all the extra stuffing.

Matthew Hart is a successful business man and the heir to family fortune and high-end furniture and interior decoration company Hart and Home. Twenty years ago, he thought himself in love with Jax Foster, but when Jax and his father disappeared overnight, Matthew was crushed and hasn't really had a serious relationship since. When he has a near-death experience brought on by a severe allergy, he becomes a little scared about the future and decides he needs to find a husband and have children to carry on the family legacy. He even creates a list of attributes this husband needs to have.

Jax Foster loved Matthew Hart, but his father's gambling addiction and subsequent debts required that they ran from the town. Jax resents his father for what he's put him through, but also loves the man and cannot leave him to his own devices. He's making a name for himself as an artist, designing and creating stained glass pieces.

When a customer of Hart and Home requires special stained glass inserts for his doors, Matthew and Jax's paths cross and converge.

Mr. Hart Sr, Matthew's father, and Adam, Matthew's PA, both help this along. I liked both of these side characters, especially Adam who really looked out for Matthew.

As Jax and Matthew rekindle their romance, and some truths come out, the suspense part of the plot increases. We have attempted murder, a kidnapping, a mobster enforcer named Rai whom Adam would like to climb like a tree, and Matthew's cousin and crazy wife also play a role.

The sex is hot, with lots of dirty talking, the dialogue had some bite on occasion, and though I didn't like the obvious "big misunderstanding", I did like their relationship. Having both Matthew and Jax alternate in being the narrator helped to understand both of their perspectives, their hopes, and their fears, and made them more sympathetic to me. I could understand that Jax didn't want to give up on his father, despite the addiction, and I could understand that Matthew was wary Jax would run again.

The lone female in this book was the designated villain, something that I don't particularly care for, and her portrayal was totally OTT. I could believe the mobster money collector, and I could even believe that Adam had the hots for him (hopefully, these two will get their own book), but all in all, it was just a little bit too much, even for a Dreamspun Desires title.

The romance though, that second chance at love, was well done, and I wanted Matthew and Jax to find their HEA. Which, no spoiler here, they did.

Charlie Cochet's writing style is a good fit here, and thankfully not flowery at all. The plot flowed smoothly, without any lulls, and I was engaged throughout the book. It fits within the series by having a somewhat implausible setting (Matthew being a young, hot, successful and rich guy, partnered with a young man from the wrong side of the tracks - fabulous trope, that) and the scenarios within are not close to the realm of realism, but it's entertaining nonetheless. There's not a whole lot of in depth character development, but I didn't expect that from this book. I do expect a whirlwind emotional romance when I read a title in this series, and I got that here. Mission accomplished.

This was a wonderful second chances book with a dash of action thrown in and plenty of sweet interactions between both the main characters and the people around them who are a part of their lives. The story was full of love and sweet relationship building along with lots of figuring out what makes things work in their unique relationship.

Every thing starts off when SOMEONE TRIES TO KILL MATTHEW. Honestly, I feel that is downplayed both in the blurb and in a large chunk of the book, but it is obviously an attempted murder! Very nearly dying (because it was a damn good attempt) makes Matthew take stock of his life. Not only is his home life lonely, but but his family company will go to family he does not want to won the company if he unexpectedly dies. However he has never exactly done well in love and it comes down to never getting over his first love. So when it turns out that Jax (his first love) is back in town and the two have a meet set up by Matthew's family obviously he....runs the hell away in anger. But when it is clear that work requires the two to keep being near each other and Jax wants more than anything to at least be friends again they start to see each other more regularly and start up something again.

I loved how the two reconnected as adults. It can be difficult to do a second chance story, especially from children to adults, as people change. The biggest changes can be from teenagers to mature adults. Having any connection or even being able to spark love again gets easily stymied by these changes. In this story it was quickly clear that the two men had a deep connection as children and had each seen in each other the potential they had as adults. There were moments when each man questioned if the other had changed from that, but through their interactions it was plainly clear that they had not. At the same time it was never taken for granted that they could simply strike up from where they left off. Jax feels at fault and he takes the time and effort to woo Matthew again and bring the two back together. Jax works through food and friendship which was sweet and so much fun to see!

Though the murder attempt is downplayed for much of the book it certainly isn't forgotten. There is quite the action in the latter half of the book as this comes to the forefront. It was a catalyst for plenty of problems in Jax and Matthew's burgeoning relationship, but it also made them address the concerns they were having. It was the perfect mix of action and resulting conversation which made for a fantastic end to the book.

Finding Mr. Wrong by Charlie Cochet – Review by Dawn Honeycutt
4 Stars

Matthew Hart runs his father’s company and is a millionaire. He doesn’t do relationships, but after nearly dying, he decides he needs to marry so the company will go to his spouse in the event he dies. Matthew’s assistant helps create a list of qualities needed to find the perfect husband. The problem is Matthew compares everyone man to his first love, Jax, the man he’s never been able to get over. He and Jax were childhood friends, shared their first kiss and were inseparable until the day that Jax disappeared. Matthew never knew what happened and didn’t hear from Jax again. He was left devastated and with a broken heart that he couldn’t trust with anyone.

Jax Foster is an artist. He’s finally found the perfect studio, he has work, but his father’s addiction to gambling continues to keep Jax from living his dream. When Jax has an opportunity to create two pieces for Hart & Home, Matthew’s father and Matthew’s assistant see this as a perfect opportunity to play matchmakers. They hope to find Matthew a husband, mend his broken heart, and give Jax a chance to find happiness.

I think this is the first book I’ve read in the Dreamspun Desires series although it appears there were 40 books in the series before this one. (LOL) I’m a huge fan of Charlie Cochet and her THIRDS Series and thought “Why Not?” when I saw her name appear in the list of ARC’s that I could read and review. This book definitely was not what I expected which was basically loads of action, brooding men and steamy hot sex. Finding Mr. Wrong is a sweet, sappy love story which, now that I’ve done a little research, is exactly what the Dreamspun Desires series is supposed to be. I enjoyed Finding Mr. Wrong. Jax is the bad boy everyone dreams about and humble enough to make me swoon. Matthew is sweet, funny (though not nearly as funny as his assistant) and of course, gives in to his desire to be with his first love. I’m not usually a fan of sappy romance books, but I loved this one.

Charlie Cochet has been one of my most favorite authors since the first time I picked up one of her books. Ever since then when a book by Charlie comes out I am quick to get it and read it because I know whatever is on the inside of that book, it is going to be simply amazing.

This book is no exception. It is a different pace from my favorite series by Charlie which is "The Thirds Series" but hat does not mean that it is no less good. This book may not be a shifter book but it is such an incredible read. I honestly would not mind having another book with these characters in it either as part of another book as guest appearances or even a continuation of their story.

Matthew and Jax both, in my opinion, are such amazing men. Matthew could be a stuck up individual with all the money he has but he is the opposite. He is a caring individual that cares about his employees and the people around him. He does not think anyone is beneath him nor does he treat them as a they are either.

Even Jax has never had much, the last thing he wants is for someone to pay his way. He wants his art work to speak for itself and he wants no hand outs from anyone. That makes His and Matthew's budding reconciliation that much more amazing because both men just truly want the other and not what they can offer one another.

The most intriguing part of this book is the mystery aspect of who it is that seems to want to hurt both of He men. It makes this already amazing love story that much more interesting. This was a book I could not put down and definitely did not get enough of. As I stated I truly hope there will be more from them in the future. Another incredible read by Charlie Cochet.

Charlie Cochet is a favorite of mine. She’s never let me down. Her books never fail to make me happy, so when Finding Mr. Wrong became available, I jumped on it. Once again, Cochet came through for me. I loved this story. It was sweet, with not much angst, but it also provided a whodunit and a race to rescue Matthew from danger.

I found Matthew and Jax to be charming, sweet, and sexy. I loved how they reacted to each other. Even when they met up for the first time in years, I felt the attraction between them. There were hurt feelings, especially from Matthew, but it didn’t take too long for him to relax and finally listen to Jax as he explained why he disappeared all those years ago. Their chemistry was off the charts. It was almost seamless the way they transitioned from arguing to love. Once they finally started to make up for lost time, fireworks went off. The sex was hot, but the actual romance was what grabbed me here. Matthew and Jax, quite simply, made me smile.

I absolutely loved this book! It is by far my favorite from the Dreamspun Desires series! Charlie is simply a delightful storyteller. The story is as sweet as it can get and in a really, really good way!

So Matthew. I loved him! He’s like the subdued version of Dex from the author’s THIRDS series (if you haven’t read this series, you should start now because you really don’t wanna miss out!) but he’s as lovable as Dex.

Jax. Oh, that name! Jax is Fabio with that sexy blonde locks and he is the Sloane Brody here (Haha! Sorry for the THIRDS connection. Not sorry! ) The strong, sexy, quiet alpha male who couldn’t seem to get a break.

Then there’s Adam the good-ol-super adorable assistant! I loved him from the get go and couldn’t wait to read his own story!

Speaking of the story – there’s nothing very unusual about it but the flow from start to finish is perfection. You’d fall for the characters right away. The plot is in fact very TV soap-ish but the whole cheesy romantic reunion just clicked real good here. I was hoping for more pages when I finished it. I want to read more from Matthew and Jax and I’ve a feeling that I’d see them again because there is no way Adam isn’t getting his own love story!!!

Highly Recommended!

After a near-death experience, Matthew Hart comes back ready to find love--specifically someone to spend the rest of his life with. Which is something he's never really sought since the love of his life disappeared on him in high school without even saying a word. And when his father gives him a project to oversee an art commission for an important client, the last thing he expect is to find the artist is Jax Foster, the one who walked out on him all those years ago. But there is more to Jax's story than Matthew could even imagine, even if he tells himself he doesn't want to hear it. Being forced to work together on this project, however, might just be what both men need to start to heal and find that spark they both thought was long dead. This is one of those stories that you think is going in some obvious directions but sprinkles in some interesting surprises to really keep you interested.

This is sort of a “Cinderfella” story about a guy who thinks he’s not worthy finding himself in a position to not only fall in love with the boss, but also save the company.

There’s a little bit of a “second chance” story here too, and some hurt/comfort as Matthew struggles with his father’s “legacy”.

While the writing was fine – Charlie is a gifted writer – the story left me fairly cold. I didn’t like how Jax saw himself or how long it took him to see himself as valuable.

It’s a quick and easy read, with a nice HFN, but it wasn’t my favorite by this author.

(Not to be too shallow – but the cover of this would have put me off. If it wasn’t by Charlie Cochet, I’d probably have skipped it….)
