I purchased this book in England many years ago, because I had seen the original RSC production of "Nicholas Nickleby" on PBS here, and I'm a huge Dickens fan. I read this "Making of..." story with utter fascination. If you love literature, theater, and the whole process of creating a play, I highly recommend this book. Very well-written!
Exactly what I was looking for in a book like this. The production has been bouncing around in my head unbidden lately, so I went to see if the dvds were available. Looks like they were oop but I came across this book. Informative and well illustrated.
4.5- so much directing and acting inspiration to hear about the insanity of one of my favorite shows coming to life. A very niche audience for this though- but I’m even more excited for next year’s rewatch knowing this history
The theatrical event that was RSC's Nicholas Nickleby is chronicled here from inception to reviews and beyond. It was a fascinating process, involving actors, improv, directors, writers and designers. Very interesting read. It bothered me that the author jumped willy nilly between present and past tense.
