Major lessons I learned from "Just Enough Light for the Step I'm On"

1.That if a person has Jesus in his/her heart, he/she will never be in complete darkness, no matter how dark he/she conceives himself/herself to be in, like what Revelations 21:23 says, “And the city has no need of sun or moon, for the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its light.” Same thing with Christians, we don’t need any other light, because the Light of world Himself is right inside our hearts. And that Light can never be extinguished.

2.That God can make a path from where we are to where He wants us to be. He has Plan A, B, C, or whatever it takes to accomplish His plans for our life.

3.That it is God Himself who makes a way so that we may spend time with Him. As Rick Warren said, the best expression of love is time. God wants us to love Him and express it well so He enables us to do that. We just have to obey, because there is definitely a way.

4.That we can learn so much from the Israelites’ deliverance from Egypt, how God sustains His people even when He punishes them (God was punishing the Israelites with that wandering in the wilderness because of disobedience and lack of trust, and yet, He never let them go hungry--- He provided manna!) and the conquer of and entry to the Promised Land.

5.When God is taking us out of some Egypt (i.e., comfort zones) in our life, we have to forget the comforts of it as soon as possible so that we would be able to enjoy the journey. Learn to seek the abundance of the moment and trust that God loves us so much t take away something good if He is not going to replace that with something better.

6.When traveling in the wilderness, pack light. Just bring the following: (i.) the Word of God; (ii.) a measure of patience; (iii.) a garment of praise; (iv.) a pair of knee pads for the fervent prayer times; and (v.) an open vessel to hold the Living Water God is going to pour out on us (pp. 96-97).

7.God wants us to completely surrender to Him so that He may work freely in our lives. Even if God gave us some vision for ourselves, we should also surrender it so thoroughly that we would think its dead. He does it so that He would still be able to guide us. The usual problem with us is that we tend to let go of God’s hand once we get so excited about a vision He gave. He wants us to be completely dependent on Him.

8.When we are waiting on the Lord, we can be sure that He is doing something on our lives, even if we cannot feel anything. Much is happening on the spiritual realm that we cannot see, and each prayer we utter sets something in motion…every prayer is a weapon! What strength God gave us, even in waiting!

Do you ever have a book suggestion from a friend that hits just the right spot? That was this book for me and to be honest I have had it for months and have read it slower then most books it took months but no matter when I cracked open the book it hit the spot where I was. I loved it and it spans so many topic's that it could fit most people and if it doesn't skip on to the next chapter it's for you too.

I just completed this book with my bible study group and we are all impressed with it. Brilliant combination of author life stories, bible references, straight talk and beautiful prayers. O'Martian knows how to get to the heart of the matter and she challenges readers to dig deeper into their relationship with the Lord. The study guide at the back of the book provides insightful, probing questions that really got us all thinking and weighing our past, present and future. The kind of book/study that can change the trajectory of your life.

I've had this book for years. Although it is great for reading chapter to chapter, it's also a sort of "reference" for different situations you may find yourself in throughout your life. I've picked it up, read a single chapter and been so refreshed. It contains solid Scriptural truths, and encouragement for trusting God in times when you're just not sure what or where the next step is in His perfect plan for you.

Here is my exact review that I posted on Amazon (thought I would share here also):
Well, Stormie Omartian is my favorite author so of course I am going to say that you can't go wrong w/ her books because I haven't read one yet that didn't speak to my heart and help me to examine and grow my relationship w/ both God and others. This book, especially, gives the reader inspiration to keep pushing forward while learning to depend on God for every step you take because He, ultimately, is our Heavenly Father that has our best interests at heart. God is waiting at the door of our heart for us to open up and let Him in. He has abundance waiting for us and only wants us to trust in Him and his plans for our life. It is an awesome and uplifing and empowering book and I enjoyed it so thoroughly that I have bought it as a gift twice now for others. I hope this book helps you that maybe contemplating reading/purchasing it- as much as it has me. God Bless!

This book was a great reminder that I only need enough of God's light for the step I'm on. I don't have to know everything that awaits me in the future. I can trust Him with my tomorrows as long as I draw close to Him.

This is a book I keep on hand and have read several times. I read it all the way through, intially, and I have read it in parts off-and-on since the first read. I have also given it and lent it out to friends who are in need of encouragement and reassurance of faith.

I read this book while my 9 year old niece spent almost 5 months in a hospital, waiting for a heart transplant. Incredibly well written, and exactly what I needed at the time.

Stormie Omartian is a New Age-influenced, false teaching-influenced, therapized woman with some issues. She has very little understanding of the Bible and Holy Spirit. What she says on repentance and forgiveness is good, but where is Jesus? She believes things such as 1)praying will empower or give you power 2)His voice speaks to our heart 3) don't miss out on good things, God has your best interests in mind 4) good health, success, easy life free of temptation, world peace, saving people are acceptable topics to pray to God 5) give God your burden 6) God will lift you above your difficult situations 7) you can limit God in disobedience 8) prayer is about your "needs" and feelings and opinions 9) God measure your prayers by how important they are to you 10) results from prayers take time 11) He will give you a new life you will enjoy so much that you won't want to travel back in your mind to the old one 12) loving God is easier than loving man 13) flow of the Holy Spirit will carry us wherever WE need to go 14) the devil hates it when you quote the Bible 15) the devil can't be around praise 16) just stop listening to negative thoughts 17) praise and reading the Bible is magic against negative feelings. Go watch Hardcore Christianity on Youtube. 1) Godhead has all the power, not the asker 2) He speaks to us through scriptures and His testimony first most, not feelings and experience 3) focus on self, not on missing out on God 4) all of those are earthly and Satanic and not according to scripture 5) you need to take up Jesus' burden 6) God will never let you rise above your circumstances in a New Age manner. He will go through it with you. Jesus came to suffer. He is Immanuel, God with us. 7) God is not limited, He just doesn't do certain things when there's unrepented sin 8) go to Lord's Prayer. Some of your needs are Satanic, of the flesh. It's God who must be glorified. 9) God measures your prayers by whether they are according to His Will 10) Daniel 10:12-13 11) John 16:33 12) 1 John 4:20, 1 John 3:10 13) Acts 1:8, John 3:8 14) The devil loves to spread false doctrine and distort the Word. You must quote the Bible with faith and understanding to defeat him. Be a serious student of the Bible 15) the devil was the worship leader. He is leading you away from Christ with music from Hillsong, Bethel, Jesus Culture, Lauren Daigle, etc. 16) watch Hardcore Christianity on Youtube. You must fight facts and lies with the Truth of the Word of God. You can't ignore them. 17) There are seriously mentally ill Christians. They are that way because of demons, and those must be cast out. Jesus called deliverance "the children's bread."

This was the perfect, light read for this stage of my life. Highly recommend it to anyone dealing with hardship or uncertainty (which is basically everyone, right? I recommend this book to everyone.).

Most importantly, the content was godly, encouraging, inspiring, and a great reminder of how God is always present in our lives - no matter what hardships are shaking us. I enjoyed the author's style of writing, including her usage of personal anecdotes to illustrate points, and the formatting (Scripture verses at the end of each chapter, and a prayer starter). She was conversational but to the point, comforting but challenging, and her faith in God is very inspiring. I finished the book with a renewed sense of purpose for this season of waiting and testing in my life.

I'll definitely be coming back to this book!

I think we all need to remember that God gives us enough light for the step we’re on. It’s that fog or darkness ahead that bothers us.
This is my first Stormie Omartian book and I sought it out because she writes extensively on prayer and historically prayer has been my biggest weakness - maybe because I’m not much of a talker ... especially around strangers and I didn’t know God very well. As I’ve grown to know God better, He’s changed that!
Stormie hits the nail on the head that God is with us in every step from the difficult steps of our past and continuing on to our final step in the future. At all times I want to see every step ahead clearly but that’s not what God has promised. He’s promised just enough light for the step I’m on.

I had never read anything by Stormie Omartian (more because I considered her writing primarily for women) but I very much benefitted from reading "Just Enough Light for the Step I'm On." I guess it had more to do with where I am in my own personal life. I think I picked this book up at a yard sale and had it on my bookshelf. The subtitle is "Trusting God in the Tough Times," and that certainly applied to me. I like that each chapter is brief so it can easily be read in one sitting, followed by a page of related Scripture verses under the heading, "Footlights." I usually highlight books as I read, but I did not highlight this one, thinking I would pass it along to someone else. But now that I've finished it, I believe I will keep it after all. Now, where's my highlighter?

I wanted to love this book because one of my favorite verses is “your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path”. I went in with the anticipation of seeing and understanding how the Lord guides your path and lights just the next steps so you can know where you are heading. Perhaps my impression was wrong but this book was definitely not in that line. I felt she trivialized peoples pain and the doubt and fear and worry they go through when waiting for the Lord to answer them. Her answer to everything was that we are not taking it to God because when She did everything got better really quickly. I found it unfair and chapter after chapter of this made it harder for me to read. There were definitely some poignant passages but overall not what I was looking for.

3.5 stars, rounded up.

What I appreciate about Stormie's books that I've read is how balanced they are. She is much more often read in very charismatic circles, and very much not so in reformed circles, but I've never read anything from her that was particularly alarming - and there are a lot of things that she gets right. In this book, there's a small paragraph where she discusses advice to women who are in abusive relationships, and she basically says "get out, get out. It is not love to stay with a man who is trapped in his own sin and dysfunction."

I'm not likely to recommend this book to hundreds of people, or really remember a ton of what it is about years from now, but it was a good read and I'm glad I read it.

Read Stormie's book, "Power of a Praying Wife" and i love this one just as much. I particularly like how Stormie writes with such a simplistic rhetoric in her books, but all the while being very deep and insightful at the same time. I always like Stormies reference of scripture to prove her point throughout her books,- that is very important to me in a Christian book, and in both books i read she executes that well. This books theme was very true to the things we all face and I would recommend her books to readers. I love the prayers she has and the scripture footlights after each chapter. I found myself praying them throughout. All in all, a great read!

This book was given to me 20 years ago when I was facing some very difficult decisions in my young adult life. This dear book went from box to office several times during relocations to different cities. But God’s timing is always perfect. I was meant to find this book when I did, as I finally had the spiritual maturity to understand the holy guidance Stormie writes about. This is a great book to read during times of struggle and change. It is also a great book to give to others who are facing tough times and crossroads. It is also good to read during times of peace, as you can look back and see how God lit up each step in front of you and never left your side.

I started this book because I didn’t have any others that seemed too interesting and it took a while to get into the book. I felt the “light metaphors” seemed forced. But then my world was turned upside down when my Mother was admitted to a nursing home and placed in hospice care. The chapters I read after these life events were just what I needed for the moment and the challenge. Chapter 17, “Walking in the Midst of the Overwhelming” was certainly God reassuring me that by depending on Him, I can survive this season of life and thrive and grow in my relationship with the Lord. It was indeed just enough light for the step I am on.

I've never read any books by Ms. Omartian and I'm sorry I haven't. However, if I had to start anywhere, this is the place. This book was so convicting, so convicting, and so enlightening. With every chapter I was blessed with revelations that I so desperately needed and didn't know I needed.

If your traveling in tough times and if life seems to have darkened, I encourage you to read Just Enough Light for the Step I'm on. You won't be sorry.

Of all of the books I have read by Stormie Omartian this is by far my favorite. I read it like someone starving for the words she wrote. Its message was just for me I felt with each chapter. I have 5 more of her books that I have read so much they are worn and tattered. I know this one will as well. Thank you Stormie for this study book. I loved every word. You are a blessing. God helped me discover this book because I needed it at this tough time of my life.

Great book for me. I always want to plan for the future (way, way out) and see my plans coming to pass but it never happens that way for some reason. I always end up blaming myself. This book taught me to just trust God for the step I'm on now. I intend to read it again and take notes and hang them up on the fridge so I remember them!!

This is a book filled with insights on how to weather the storms of life. The author gives examples from her life and quotes from the bible. It is a terrific reminder that God is in control.

Note - the study guide in the back is meant to be used as you read each chapter so don't save it all to the end.
