The Wild Leaf Ride
Ms. Frizzle's fantastic science fun is now available for younger fans of the television show. The new Magic School Bus Scholastic Readers make learning an adventure!
Ms. Frizzle's class is learning about leaves. The students are playing a game called Leaf Hunt, but they can't find one of the leaves. Ms. Frizzle says it's time for a field trip, and the kids get on the Magic School Bus. They are going to track down the missing leaf. As always, Ms. Frizzle's class finds all kinds of excitement on their search for science facts. Hop on the Magic School Bus!

I'm not a big Magic School Bus fan. I like that they've made these into readers for children who are fans. One benefit of this format was that the student can read just the yellow box text which is the story, the dialogue bubbles for responses of students on the ride, and the notebook paper boxes with more of the nonfiction facts about the subject. This one was about leaves. I could see these as a nice addition to a K or 1st grade classroom.

the kid was kinda disappointed that they knew what the leaves were waaaaay better than the school bus people.

The Wild Leaf Ride is a Level 2 Scholastic Reader that ties into the Magic School Bus franchise. Level 2 Scholastic Readers feature "vocabulary and sentence length for beginning readers", as stated on the back of the book.
In The Wild Leaf Ride, the cast of the Emmy award winning television show, The Magic School Bus, are learning about leaves with a game they call "Leaf Hunt". They have already gathered and identified a leaf from each of the seven trees on their school property--except for one. As they go searching for this elusive seventh leaf, Judith Stamper presents factoids on various kinds of leaves.
The Wild Leaf Ride is light on actual information, compared to what I'd expect from a Magic School Bus Science Reader; while leaf facts are presented, they're supplemental to the plot of the book and not a part of the main narrative. As such, I wouldn't advise anyone to attempt to teach their children about leaves with this book; it might serve as a good companion to another book about trees or leaves (or perhaps to the The Magic School Bus Gets Planted episode of the show), but I hardly think the book has enough information to serve as a lesson unto itself.
Nevertheless, I would recommend The Wild Leaf Ride to parents reading to their toddlers or children in the early stages of learning to read (particularly those who are already fans of the Magic School Bus franchise).

Mrs. Frizzle is at it again! This is a fun book that will definitely keep your children interested. This is designed to be a "level 2" book, which (according to the cover) means that the vocabulary and sentence length is appropriate for beginning readers. I would have to agree with that statement, although the style of writing could potentially make this an even higher level read. Each page contains a box with the storyline written, but there are also many dialogue bubbles and notes written and hidden throughout the pictures. I would recommend this book to be used for a lesson on the seasons or a more simple lesson on leaves changing color in the fall. This would be a great book for children who are in grades K-2.

This is another fun story in the Magic School Bus Science Readers series. We've read so many Magic School Bus books that the characters feel like old friends. The corny jokes and different personalities are so familiar to us.
This story takes on a leaf hunt for a missing leaf for the classroom bulletin board. The class has a fun field trip and gets an up-close look at leaves. The illustrations are typical for this series and the narrative is short, perfect for beginning readers. We enjoyed reading this story together.

I think that any Magic School Bus book is amazing and this one is no different. This book is about the class going on another field trip to look for the leaf that is missing from their collection. This would be a great book to read for a fall unit or a science unit about leaves or trees or nature. Very fun and interactive.
