A thoughtful, in-depth study of documentary filmmaking. Probably one of the most helpful books I've read on the subject lately.

It's a textbook. It's written like a textbook, and it read like a textbook. I got some good info out of it that I didn't get elsewhere. A bit expensive for the info I extracted though.

This is really helpful thus far. This is being used as the main text in a class that is studying dialects of English in Texas. By the end of the semester, each crew will have filmed, edited, and presented a 5-10 minuted documentary. This book is invaluable, providing crucial information and tips on all aspects of the process.

This is a little pompous and idealistic so far; clear it was written by a BBC alum. It's also very long-winded. I'm 80 pages in and he's yet to start really discussing how to go about directing. We'll see if my opinion changes as it goes on...

Again, I love learning about making documentary films. It seems like the only uncensored source left.
