This book is super-short, and easy to read. I don't think it's a book for the writer who doesn't already have some knowledge of plotting. In fact, it reads more like an extended checklist.
Plotting does not come easily to me, so I've read quite a few books on the subject. Yet I've had difficulty infusing what I know into my work. I always get bogged down in the technicalities. But this book strips plotting down to it's most basic. Your character needs to be this person, he/she needs to start out somewhere and have a reason to want to move somewhere else, and these things need to happen along the way.
If you've read all the books on plotting, and tried everything, but none of it sticks, this may well be the book for you.
I'm off to try and insert a plot in my last manuscript. :)
This book was easy to understand, and simple in its layout. But don't let that fool you. This shot t book is also inspiring. As you read it, you discover what separates well written storylines from those missing essential elements that make a story touch a person's heart. This book has gotten me excited to hone my writing skills again. That's why I say it is inspiring.
A very quick primer on plotting. It served as a useful outline, and by including my own notes on my current WIP directly (via my Ipad Kindle), I can refer back to it while I continue to outline my novel. For a more in-depth description of plotting, however, the reader will want to supplement with other materials.
Has a few bits of decent information, but nothing you can't find elsewhere online for free really. It's short, and the first half is pretty choppy and doesn't make a lot of sense. The last part where it's explaining the 3 act structure is the best, but I've seen it explained a bit better elsewhere.
Very useful, concise, and simple guide for writers to use as a checklist and guide for plotting and story structure. Superb resource for fiction writers, with lots of good stuff for non-fiction writers, as well.
A great book for beginners to the craft of writing. Sadly, not much was in here that I haven't already learned. I guess that means I'm no longer a beginner. XD
