Noel-niminen kaveri käy ystävineen Garfieldin* yläkoulua. Luokkaa kuohuttaa ajatus lähestyvästä kouludiskosta, sillä enää ei olla alakoulussa, jolloin saattoi pitää vaan rennosti hauskaa. Nyt pitäisi löytää tanssipartneri, eikä mikään sotke varmemmin tytöistä ja pojista koostuvan kaveriporukan välejä.
Kaikesta tulee yhtäkkiä hankalaa: pitäisi ostaa kukkia, alkaa käyttää deodoranttia ja keksiä miten pyytää ihastustaan ulos. Ei ole helppoa, ei. Kaiken lisäksi Noel onnistuu murtamaan kätensä, eikä elämää helpota sekään, että yksinhuoltajaisällä ja matematiikanopettaja neiti Tannerilla vaikuttaisi olevan pientä vipinää...
Jason Plattin "Karsea kouludisko" (Otava, 2024) on kolmas osa Huippuhäslärit-nimen saaneessa sarjassa. Lopputulos on varsin mukava ja yllätti ainakin minut positiivisesti, vaikka jinxaus-juonikuvio olikin vähän erikoinen kirouksen murtamisineen päivineen.
Pidin myös piirrosjäljestä, joka nyökkää enemmän kuin selkeästi Bill Wattersonin suuntaan. Pilkulliseen mekkoon pukeutuvaa Rouva Hendricksia voisi pitää jonkinmoisena kunnianosoituksena Lassin ja Leevin piirtäjän luomalle opettajahahmolle.
Seiskaluokkalaisista albumi saattaa tuntua vähän lapselliselta, mutta vanhemmille alakoululaisille tämä on ainakin ihan omiaan. Pitänee tutustua myös aikaisempiin osiin!

This is the sort of graphic novel series I'd love to see more of; funny, realistic, and concerned with ordinary middle school drama of all kinds. I get very distracted by the fact that Newell's eyes are often empty ovals, and the text is on the tiny side, but my students like these. Newell and Big Nate would hang out together and get in lots of trouble. If more of these are published, I will definitely purchase them for my library.

Life is going well for Newell and when it's announced that the school dance is coming up, Newell and his friends are riding high with anticipation to attend. But then things turn dark when Newell is struck by a jinx, and he finds himself falling deep into it path. What else could go wrong? Lots, that's what. Laughs and humor fill the pages of this Middle School Misadventure.

I’m a fan of all the Middle School Misadventures books, but this is my fave in the series so far. Great artwork. Wonderful story. Fantastic pacing. I highly recommend for any middle-grade reader and for those who are young at heart.

I liked this book it was funny and easy to read, I love how the characters are made an what they do. My favourite character is maybe Clara and Skyler, I don't know why, I just really like them. This is a 4/5 from me!
