Completely Smitten
Haley Foster had lived her entire life in a box. Guided by her preacher father and the residents of her tiny hometown as to what to do, what to wear and even who to marry, she'd lost herself along the way. But no more. Now she was going to live on her own terms and do all the things good preachers' daughters didn't do. Starting with Kevin Harmon.

The injured U.S. Marshal needed a ride from Kansas to his home in Texas. Haley had a car. She figured she owed him a favor. And he knew a lot more about being bad than she did. A few days, just the two of them, in her tiny convertible and intimate hotel rooms. It would be fun, it would be passionate, it would be an experience.

At least, that was her plan. He just didn't know it yet.

Hers for the Weekend
She wanted a temporary arrangement. . .

Piper Jamieson needs a man. And not just any man. She needs someone to play her significant other when she heads home for her family reunion. Thanks to a self-imposed period of celibacy, she has no prospects. . .except for her sexy best friend, Josh Weber. Since there's nothing between them, kissing him will be a breeze, right?

But he wanted her permanently!

Spending an entire weekend with Piper sounds perfect to Josh. . .it's the whole family thing that doesn't. Lately his dates haven't been as exciting as they used to be, and he knows why. His best friend's been on his mind--day and night. But Piper has made it clear she's not looking for a relationship. Luckily, he's hers for the weekend, and he has three full nights to change her mind!

What a sweet, lovely read! I'm completely smitten... LOL, you knew this pun was coming, right?

U.S. Marshall Kevin Harmon has just delivered a prisoner to the federal penitentiary in Kansas, and now all he wants is a beer, a burger and a bed, in that order. So there he is, in a seedy road side bar, getting the beer and the burger, when she walks in... For once he isn’t looking for trouble, so of course trouble, in the form of a pretty, wide-eyed blonde, comes looking for him. Kevin can see the nervousness in her eyes and the hesitation in her step, stating loud and clear that she doesn't belong in this - or any other - bar, and he's determined to stay out of the way, no matter what. But when she's accosted by 3 bullies who are interested in more than just a friendly chat, he can't not do anything, can he? So he dons his shining armor and goes to her rescue...

Haley Foster is a very sheltered, naïve minister's daughter who has run away from home in order to "experience life" for the 1st time. She was engaged to her father's associate pastor, but longtime lingering doubts made her question her decision to marry a man she doesn't love. So she's packed her bags, hit the road and there she is now, in a seedy road side bar in Kansas, being rescued by a handsome, in a rugged, cigarette-advertisement sort of way, man.

Reformed bad boy Kevin knows better than to get involved with innocent Haley, and tries his best to do "the right thing" and stay away from her. He's slime. Actually, he's the single-celled creatures that aspire to be slime. She deserves better than someone like him. But no matter how many times he repeats this mantra to himself, he can't help being pulled into her charming, adorable side. Fate intervenes and he finds himself in need of a ride to his mother's home in Possum Landing, TX, so she offers to drive him there. Does he want to spend the next few days this close to her? Oh yes! He's going to hell for sure. But he's going down with a smile...

This was an utterly adorable, "feel good" read! Kevin was oh-so-sweet, and I loved the way he kept thinking that lightning would strike him for lusting after virginal Haley. He was just perfect, always respectful and concerned about her wants and needs. Oh my, can I have more of him, please? ;) Haley was also lovely, and it was fun to watch her "experiencing life" and finding her independence. I've never met anyone so innocent in real life, but I didn't find her unbelievable at all considering the way she'd been raised. Things could have turned bad for her if she hadn't found Kevin so early in her self-discovery journey, but that didn't mean she wasn't a person of her own. As corny as it sounds, they really completed each other.

As for the plot, this was a straight contemporary novel about 2 people meeting and falling in love. There was no mystery to be solved and no secondary plot to divert my attention. This book is part of the Hometown Heartbreakers series and the connection that ties the characters in the series was part of the story, but it wasn't big enough to make it necessary to read the previous books to understand and enjoy this one. Nonetheless, I'm going to track them down because I want to read them. If they're as good as this one, I'm in for a treat. :)

Hands-down best Special Edition I've ever read. I don't normally give category length books 5 stars because typically they tend to not have the space to develop a really good story. This one proves that if you start off with a basic premise without trying to work in too many details, that a category-length book can be excellent.

Haley Foster is tired of being the good girl that everyone orders around. As a minister's daughter, she's spent her whole life doing exactly what people expect and never getting a chance to experience anything. When the fiance her father and his congregation has picked out for her expresses some last-minute doubts, she gets angry and sets out to do things she's never done: drink alcohol, dress in provocative clothes, wear makeup, cut her hair, and pick up men. And she runs away to eventually make it to Hawaii, starting out by driving to the Pacific Coast.

In Kansas, she runs across Kevin Harmon, U.S. Marshal. Kevin is in town delivering a prisoner to the federal pen and he wants nothing more to return to D.C. and his life there. The last thing he wants is to feel responsible for the beautiful naive woman who strikes up a conversation with him after he protects her. But when Kevin is injured helping out during a prison raid, and his mother calls him home to Possum Landing, TX, for some news she can't deliver over the phone, he can't help but take advantage of Haley's offer to drive him. They spend almost an entire week meandering through the states between, and of course, fall in love.

This was such a sweet story! It wasn't angsty or dark or complicated, it was just two people in a weird situation falling in love. Although Haley was unbelievably, absurdly naive for this day and age, it worked for her lifestyle, and I bought her and Kevin's connection and love. A-

5 stars – Contemporary Romance

Sheltered, naïve preacher’s daughter Haley Foster ran away from her small Ohio town to take a road trip to Hawaii (yes, you read that right) and to do all the wild, crazy things in life that she’s never experienced before. When U.S. Marshal Kevin Harmon, who rescued Haley in a bar, ends up needing a ride back to his hometown of Possum Landing, Texas, they embark on an unexpected road trip together and an even more surprising journey to love.

I loved both Haley and Kevin, and they made such an engaging couple. All of their discussions and interactions were so entertaining, funny, and sweet. Haley is so nice, guileless, quirky, cute, and just utterly adorable. Kevin’s patient, gentle, thoughtful, tender, and protective manner of treating and caring for Haley is sigh-worthy. And although Kevin thinks his former bad boy ways makes him unworthy of having sex with someone as innocent as Haley or of receiving love, she’s mighty determined to convince him otherwise.

So if you’re looking for a fun, charming, touching romance with a lovable heroine, a yummy hero, and some laugh out loud moments that will leave you “completely smitten” (couldn’t resist), with a big fat smile on your face, then I highly recommend this delightful little gem. 5 stars!

4 Star Contemporary Romance

My first experience with Susan Mallery certainly turned out to be a delightful one. Completely Smitten has been sitting in my to-be-read pile for ages since I got the title off as a recommendation from one of the discussion threads on Amazon. Coupled with the fact that I was craving for a short and light read that would captivate me from the beginning till end together with the high ratings my friends on Goodreads seem to have given for this title sealed the deal for me and I enjoyed every minute of Haley and Kevin's journey towards happily-ever-after.

31 year old U.S. Marshal Kevin Harmon is stuck in the middle of Kansas after spending the better part of the day hauling a convicted felon across state lines to a nearby prison. Kevin had grown up never knowing his biological father but nevertheless had grown up in a well rounded family environment with his fraternal twin Nash and their mother and stepfather Howard. Kevin's tendency to land in the wrong kind of trouble one time too many had in the end landed him in military school which is where Kevin had learned to turn his life around and become a law enforcement professional. The last thing he is looking for when he sits down at a bar in the middle of nowhere looking for nothing more than a beer, food and a bed all in that order is the blond, blue-eyed woman who walks in, who looks completely out of place in the bar with a less than ideal crowd.

25 year old Haley Foster from Western Ohio is the only child of a widowed Baptist Minister. The death of her mother had meant that Haley had 50 or more women looking out for her whilst she was growing up. The expectations of the congregation had been what had mapped out Haley's life, having always forgone her dreams and wants to go along with what her father and her fiance had wanted for her all her life. The final straw sees Haley driving out on her own to experience life and the wild side of it, when she meets the broodingly handsome Kevin Harmon who rescues her from the imminent trouble she stirs up when she walks into the bar.

From the moment Kevin rescues her from the 3 thugs surrounding her, he starts mumbling to himself "Why me?". Temptation he has never thought he would feel start edging in as he spends time with Haley and though Kevin tries his damnedest to mind his own business and keep away from the tempting Haley, before the night is through Kevin finds himself helping a very drunk Haley who is hell bent on making a pass at him to her room.

A string of events that follow lands these together on a road trip which would take Kevin back home and Haley on her way to Hawaii, somewhere she has always wanted to visit all her life. Along the way, Kevin and Haley both find in each other what they have both been missing in their lives, as friendship tinged with red-hot desire that edge them towards falling in love for the first time in both their lives.

Completely Smitten is the kind of story that would make you fall head over heels in love with both the hero and heroine. The gruff and tough hero doesn't stand a chance around our sunny and optimistic heroine who has every intention of experiencing the wild side of life. Even though Kevin tries to resist Haley and the way she so effortlessly charms him into falling for her, Kevin tries so hard to do the "right" thing by Haley and keep his hands off her. I loved how the feelings between Haley and Kevin developed, though their relationship is one tinged with sexual zing right from the very first moment itself.

I liked the premise of the small town girl taking care of the big and experienced U.S. Marshal who doesn't know what hits him when Haley sashays into his otherwise bleak life and lights it up with her infectious smile and her tendency to embrace each and everything in life with open arms. The way Kevin takes care of Haley's desires, and makes her feel sexy and wanted and loved at the same time are one of the best moments in the story.

Though I would have loved it if Kevin would have come after Haley even though he lets her go because he loves her and wants what is best for her, I still loved this sweet story that I very much enjoyed. I certainly would be on the lookout for other such swell reads by the author in the future.

Sheltered, naïve preacher’s daughter Haley Foster ran away from her house to take a road trip to Hawaii and to do all the wild, crazy things in life that she’s never done before. When she meets U.S. Marshal Kevin Harmon in a bar sparks fly. Kevin needs a ride back home and so they embark on a road trip together. They fall in love but Kevin thinks she is too good for someone like him plus Haley is engaged but she knows Kevin is her one true love.

Sweet, fluffy, feel-good romance! Haley is so funny and sweet, a typical Susan Mallery heroine. Kevin is noble and kind and caring, the perfect gentleman. I adored these two and their sizzling chemistry!

This story was adorable. She is so naive but I felt it was in a believable way. And he was the perfect hero for her (which is sort of what we expect in a romance, but it isn't always achieved).

He has his issues, she has hers. She has her little quest and he sort of feels like he needs to protect her or keep or safe from herself. It's so adorable!!!

This was such a sweet tale, with just the perfect amount of sizzle. I really enjoyed it.

Susan Mallory MUST be a good writer, because the premise of this book is just TERRIBLE but I couldn't stop listening to it anyway.

I mean REALLY. What cave did this girl grow up in?!!?!?! The only 25 year old girl in this day and age that is THIS naive is Amish. And they have probably watched animals have sex so they have more of a clue than this chick.

Totally ass backwards characters.

And yet.... I enjoyed it. What the hell?

Completely Smitten is a road trip romance and real sweet. Haley led a sheltered life and being a preacher's daughter, allowed people to guide her and do something she wasn't really sure she wanted to, so she stopped wearing dresses and skirts and doing anything that would reflect badly on her father, not that her father asked her to, she just did and her breaking point came when her would be husband said that he was so not sure that marriage was the right thing. That is when she realized that she didn't love him, that he was a control freak and she only dated him because of the congregation and she let loose. She cut her hair and went on the road and decided to follow her dreams of being a teacher and seeing Hawaii.

She come across Kevin in a bar. Kevin is a US Marshall who was a wild kid and the moment he sees her he realizes that she is trouble and doesn't fit in there, so he takes a drunk Haley to her hotel and when he is injured on the job, she takes him home. This was a sweet book, seeing Haley discover the joys of freedom, make-up, wearing whatever she pleased, having alcohol etc was sweet. And OMG when she asks Kevin what does sex feel like and does it pain when he is aroused. Poor Kevin wanting to do the right thing and being slayed by innocent Haley.

The two characters were sweet. I loved seeing them fall for each other.

The Susan Mallery story is a Harlequin reprint. I only read the Susan Mallery book Completely Smitten. The first 150 pages rolled along, not to exciting, very clean. The heroine Haley was way to sheltered and naive for me. She had never been away from home until she meets the hero, Kevin. She ran away from her fiancee after he voiced doubts about their upcoming marriage, which was a bright move by her because he was a a selfish, ugly, controlling dork who was preparing to be an associate minister at her father's church. The only reason she was with him was because everyone talked her into it and she didn't want to let the parish down. It was a little annoying how sheltered she was, she had never swore, drank, been to a bar, seen a penis, had to have the H describe the act of sex...come on this is a contemporary! Kevin and Haley meet at a bar and he didn't want anything to do with Haley, wasn't attracted to her, but ended up rescuing her from some bad boys' unwanted advances and took her back to her room after she became drunk on margaritas. He didn't touch her or want to touch her even after she through herself at him. She was very sweet though and he was very much a gentleman even though he kept saying what a bad boy he was- I didn't buy it. Haley ends up driving him home to Texas (from Kansas) after he is injured. They get to know each other and their relationship grows.

Then the last 70 pages got to the meat of the book, you saw the tender love developed between H and h. It became a tear jerker and had a couple of beautiful love scenes. I ended up liking it a lot by the end.

I am undecided as to whether I am going to read the second story in the book, I bought it for the Susan Mallery story and have not seen much positive about it.

For the Susan Mallery story only.

I am a huge fan of SM, but this one just wasn't for me.

Kevin is a US Marshall & Haley is a minister's daughter on the run from people running her life. She's 25, a virgin in all things, & trying to experience everything almost in one fell swoop it seems. The love happened so quickly, the whole story was hard to believe. I liked the premise a lot, but the follow through wasn't very strong. A disappointing read.

Still love Susan Mallery!

A great (and a bit steamy) summer read. I really enjoyed it & downed the whole thing in one afternoon. I must have enjoyed it, because even the little tense errors, missing words, logistical foibles, etc. didn't bother me and they usually drive me nuts. I can't tell you how many years it's been since I read a Silhouette novel! I'll read more Susan Mallery.

As usual, Susan Mallery does not disappoint in this interesting story of Haley's "awakening." I loved the storyline, enjoed the pace at which things moved, although the ending felt a little.rushed or abrupt for me.
As someone who grew up in the church, I could relate to Haley's perspective on many things, and possibly even understand her her naivety of certain things pertaining to life in this big bad world. I don't know if there many 25yr olds today who are not familiar with men's underwear or the anatomy of a man, but it sure brought home the point of how protected one's life can be when living under the watchful eye of church mothers. I am glad Haley got an opportunity to get away from it all and find herself, and in doing so, find out who her soul mate should be.

The book also included a bonus book from Tanya Michaels entitled Hers For The Weekend. I had never read any of Tanya's books, and after reading this one, I am sure I will be looking to enjoy more of her books. Also an easy relaxing read, although I did find the pace a little too slow in yhe beginning, probably because I had just finished reading the steamy closing scene in Susan's book. But once I got into it's rhythm, I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline.
Its amazing how much the events of our childhood mould us into the adults that we become. I am glad that Piper did not give up Josh whilst he struggled to silence the inner voices of the demons from his past!

A lovely story about a very sheltered minister’s daughter whose mother died when she was born, who is attempting to learn to stand up for herself and what she wants. While travelling, she walks into a bar, where she is promptly cornered by three men, then rescued by a U.S. Marshal, who had a bad day transporting a prisoner. When Haley had too much to drink, Kevin escorts her back to her hotel, when is called on for emergency duty when there’s a riot at the prison. He is shot and concussed. When Haley sees the coverage of the prison riot on the news the next morning, she also sees Kevin being loaded into an ambulance and hears a report on his injuries. When she visits him in the hospital to thank him for his kindness the previous night and hears his plan to hole up in a hotel room for a few days until he can drive to Texas, she volunteers to drive him. He accepts, and during the drive, friendship and attraction blossom between them.

Eventually, Haley’s past catches up to her in the form of her former fiancé. When she refuses to return home with him, he concludes that she must be on drugs (which she definitely was not). Kevin knows that he must let Haley spread her wings, so that she’ll know if she wants to marry him. But will she?
