New Fantasy Release

Today is the day. The long-awaited Kindle Vella has launched! What is Kindle Vella? It’s a way to consume stories an episode at a time, similar to Wattpad or Webtoons (or even good old Charles Dickens who serialized his stories in newspapers). Basically, a serialized platform. You get three free episodes, and after that you… Continue reading New Fantasy Release Read more of this blog post »

I really enjoyed this rather dated, but still fascinating book. Published in 1930, it retains an awe-filled opinion of Cortes which hasn't stood the test of time. However, apart from that, it was an enjoyable book. I read it as part of a historical r ...more

Delightful and Disturbing

I liked the descriptions of life in the West, including the French and Mexican men and women described by the author. It's true to the time period, which means the biased against Mexicans and natives are also there, as well a

This book is the revision of a master's thesis from 1973, and focuses on early Anglo explorers, military men, and trappers who left accounts of their travels in the state from 1824-1865, which was well before it actually became an official state. The ...more

Clever and wonderfully enjoyable

A really enjoyable short tale that not only has lovely characters but it also holds true to the political wrangling of ancient Rome. Recommended!

Thoroughly enjoyable romp

Of course the subject matter titillates - how could it not? I enjoyed the author's sparkling wit as much as the subject itself. My only complaint is that intended abruptly.

Calvin Coolidge
“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press On!' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”
Calvin Coolidge

Portia Nelson
“I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.
I am lost... I am helpless.
It isn't my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don't see it.
I fall in again.
I can't believe I am in the same place.
But, it isn't my fault.
It still takes me a long time to get out.

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in. It's a habit.
My eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault. I get out immediately.

walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

I walk down another street.”
Portia Nelson, There's a Hole in My Sidewalk: The Romance of Self-Discovery

Dinah Maria Mulock Craik
“But oh! the blessing it is to have a friend to whom one can speak fearlessly on any subject; with whom one's deepest as well as one's most foolish thoughts come out simply and safely. Oh, the comfort - the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person - having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all right out, just as they are, chaff and grain together; certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then with the breath of kindness blow the rest away.”
Dinah Craik, A Life For A Life

“May the warm winds of heaven blow softly upon your house. May the Great Spirit bless all who enter there. May your mocassins make happy tracks in many snows, and may the rainbow always touch your shoulder.”
American Indian Cherokee Blessing

John O'Donohue
“May the light of your soul guide you; May the light of your soul bless the work you do with the secret love and warmth of your heart; May you see in what you do the beauty of your own soul; May the sacredness of your work bring healing, light and renewal to those who work with you and to those who see and receive your work; May your work never weary you; May it release within you wellsprings of refreshment, inspiration and excitement; May you be present in what you do. May you never become lost in the bland absences; May the day never burden; May dawn find you awake and alert, approaching your new day with dreams, possibilities and promises; May evening find you gracious and fulfilled; May you go into the night blessed, sheltered and protected; May your soul calm, console and renew you.”
John O'Donohue
