I can't decide if I even liked the character of Patty in this story. Sometimes, a character is pain, but still very lovable. I don't know if the author delves deep enough into Patty herself for me to know her very well. You don't learn much about her, her family or where she comes from. You only follow her antics and schemes and, occasionally, access to her thoughts.
Compared to Jean Webster's Daddy Long-Legs series, this was a disappointment. It was a fun read and I liked the general girl-college-ness of it all, but I didn't really love it. It reminded me very much of the later Betsy-Tacy books by Maud Hart Lovelace. Those were not my favorites, either. Overall, it was worse reading because it was quick and lively, not not as lovely as I'd hoped it would be....more
