I would like to read this book but have concerns about some of the mature content that may be involved. I know it has drawn some comparisons to Game of Thrones, so does that mean there is gratuitous sexual content throughout or is it mostly just violent and grim in tone?
The sexual content is implicit, not explicit. I've read far worse in a romance novel. I am also on the squeamish side and I can tell you there's not nearly enough sexual contest to justify you missing this addictive read.

While I understand the concept of a gender neutral being, and appreciate the use of the feminine pronoun, I remain a little confused about the word 'human' when describing the beings. Are they human as we know human? And if so, how are they gender neutral? Is the word used to describe some evolutionary version of human far into the future where gender has become neutral?
