The journey from their towns to the docks for many would be the furthest they had ever been from their homes. Few if any had any idea the ordeal that lay out ahead of them.

Seemingly endless lines of men, women & children, entire families, lined the docks waiting their turns to climb that long gangway that would take them away from their suffering.

They would be at sea for 16 days, barring catastrophe. The journey from Italy to America would come to be known as The Crossings.

They were treated little better than livestock, but it was their strong will & determination & their yearning to reach America that made it all tolerable for them.
