I am a veteran of Sicily /Italy campaign. Member of the Canadian Military. Flash Spotting troop of the 1st Survey Regiment. 1st Canadian Corp. Involved in the Ortona Battle where my wife's brother lost his life and he is buried in the Moro River Canadian Cemetery just short distance south of Ortona. Took part in the Cassino battle and many others. Transfered with Canadian Forces to France Germany and finished the war at Otterloo and was involved with disarming the Kriesmarine and the Georgians on Texel Island of Dutch shore at DenHelder after war ended. All my service was during active war time. Five and one half years. Just finished reading THE DAY OF BATTLE On two different occassions I was attached to U.S forces. And the Polish and British force. Very proud to have been a member of the Canadian Army. We were all volunteers. Conscription was not in effect.I did not keep a diary. It was forbidden so I followed the rules. Thanks for the well written book
Hello Robert,
My late father Clement Bowie served with the 1st Canadian Survey Regiment during WWII. He joined in 1941 and served in England, Sicily, Italy and Northwest Europe. I am trying to find out more about his service and would appreciate any information you might have regarding regimental histories or other information. Perhaps you even knew him during the war...
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Regards, Guy Bowie

The Allied invasion of Sicily and Italy in 1943 was one of the most gripping military campaigns in history.
