WOW! Actually the author defines more than "blackness and slaves" within this poem. Maybe she doesn't mean to but THIS IS FOR EVERY PERSON(!) who has ever lived through hardships and been able to continue living again and again.
I am a woman I am hispanic I relate to you.

I agree, Tamara, Maya is awesome and inspiring!
I am a teenager growing to be a phomenial woman and this poem made me feel like a whirlwind of pride and dignity rushing to be let out!
This is like a cup of Java to me. I go back to it from time to time, for refills. :)
Somehow, I must help my dear students from Somalia know this poem can become part of the fabric of their daily life.
Her words inspire me to be me Love You Ms Angelou your my hero
