An American Faerie Tale - Tom Quinn and the Otherworld

[close] Set in the hard times of the early 1900s in Appalachian coal country, Tom Quinn and the Otherworld is the story of a melancholy boy sent to live in the city after the death of his coal miner father. After Tom is driven away from his aunts house by her cruel caretaker, he falls in with a strange troupe of ragtag characters headed by the unscrupulous owner of a bar and brothel called the Madrigal.

Interwoven with the story of Toms life is the story of a beautiful faery named Rhea. She lives in the magical otherworld existing parallel to Toms reality, a dying world that is jeopardized by destruction in the human world. When their paths finally cross, a unique love blossoms between them that transforms their lives and realities.

Kim Canazzi writes in a lyrical fairytale style with dark Dickensian undertones. This is her first novel.
