Everything, Everything is a novel about a girl named Madeline who is first portrayed to be a very sick 18 year old girl with the disease SCID (Severe combined immunodeficiency), or in other words, allergic to everything. Madeline’s whole life she has lived with her mom and has not left the house once due to her thoughts of her having SCID, while in all reality she really does not have the SCID disease; Madeline’s mom has been hiding this from her for 18 years, seems crazy right? I believe that Everything, everything is a very great book and teaches you how valuable life really is and to appreciate the little things in life.
Throughout Everything, everything the author mentioned always included Madeline’s personal thoughts of her not ‘living’ her life. Madeline was trapped in a prison she called home and did not realize it until she was 18 years old and finally decided to escape and live her life for once. With Madeline thinking she still had SCID, she and her new and only friend Olly risk her life to just ‘live’ a little. For two days they go on a vacation to Maui without her moms consent and throughout that part of the book, Madeline mentions everything beautiful about the world… from the warm touch of the sand on her feet to the wind blowing through the trees. She mentions so many things in the world that we see every day, but just never appreciate them.
In Everything, everything all Madeline wants to be is normal and live a normal life like most of the world today. People today who are not encountering many problems and just living that ‘normal’ life just want to be popular, or just better, better, better. Everything, everything taught me just how lucky I really am. It made me appreciate School, friends, and nature so much more than I did before reading Everything, everything.
Everything, everything was a very important kick to reality and just gave me a different view point of life which I enjoy. There are many people that would enjoy Everything, everything, but many more people who need Everything, everything. I believe that Everything, everything is a very good book with an immense amount of knowledge to learn from it, such as teaching you how valuable life really is and appreciating the little things in life.
