"So is a true alpha different from a plain old alpha?" "Yes," he said definitely. "What you mean by alpha isn't what a lupus means. You think of it as machismo--someone who dominates others. We mean someone who can't be dominated. A subtle but real difference. Bullies need to dominate, but can be cowed if you're tougher than they are."

My goodness, that scene with Cullen was odd and illuminating all at once.

The direction this book took was very unexpected. Not bad, just surprising.

Cynna wasn't sure what it was about her that gave people the idea she played on her own side of the fence, but this wasn't the first time she'd run up against that notion. Not just from men, either. She'd been hit on plenty by the DC-types of her own sex. After the door closed behind T.J., Cynna sighed. "Maybe I need to wear a button. Something discreet like, 'No, I'm not a lesbian.'"

"Force rose in Rule like an imminent explosion, hollowing him out until all that remained was purpose, tipping him away from the rationality of the human toward the power of the beast. He found new balance. Thought remained, but altered; words no longer led, but existed as small chips of focus for the gathering storm."

He ran out of ways to describe the beast shortly after they left the interstate. "Feel better?" she asked dryly. "No." He began winding his way back toward her apartment. "Dogs make sense. They understand the hierarchy and the need to cooperate. They come when you call them. A cat though--a cat will take your number and get back to you. Maybe. If he's in a good mood." Not that he'd ever seen Harry in a good mood.

"Come on. Let's go hassle the locals. I'd like to run a diagnostic on that bolt and find out for sure if it was magically shifted." She stood, too. "Nothing I like better than hassling a few cops." "You are a cop." "Weird, isn't it?"

"And why," Rule asked with strained patience, "Did you send the EMTs away?" ... "They wanted to take me to the hospital." He stared at the heart of his heart, the one woman in the world for him...the pigheaded, my-way-or-the-highway idiot who'd refused medical treatment. "Imagine that. What were they thinking?"

new_user Let's hope so! :D

message 2: by AH (new) - rated it 4 stars

AH I'm glad you liked it. Have added it to my list.

message 3: by Sans (new)

Sans I love it when you read an amazing book and immediately have to go to a bookshop and get the next one. Yay!

Catherine I hate this stupid town and the stupid lack of bookstores! Grrr! No one had the book. :(

I called Hastings first (the only real/non used bookstore in town) but no luck. They didn't have any of them except the last published.

So then I went to our only used bookstore (it is incredibly tiny and skeezy) and had no luck there either. Although I did pick up two other books...

So then I went to Friends of the Library and they didn't have it either! Although I once again picked up other books. They were super cheap there so I got a bunch of books I'd never even heard of. I'm willing to take a chance when a book's only $1. And by the register there were two boxes of mystery books wrapped in brown paper (so you don't know what you're getting) for $1 as well. So I had to buy those as well. I mean, what if the books I was looking for were in there?

So then I finally went into the library and they didn't have them either!

What the crap? This author is great, why can't I get my hands on her damn books?

So, once I make sure the books aren't in the brown boxes I'll order the rest of the series from Amazon. It just sucks because I want to read it now.

Catherine Huh...that was way longer and whinier than it should have been. :)

Quinn Glad you enjoyed it, Catherine, and LOL at your compulsion to buy the mystery books!

message 7: by Sans (new)

Sans LOL! Hon, if anything deserves a long rant/whine, it's an epic case of not enough good book shops where you live. I'd have tossed a few plates or upturned a table to two as well. ^_~

Catherine Quinn wrote: "Glad you enjoyed it, Catherine, and LOL at your compulsion to buy the mystery books!"

How could anyone have resisted the mystery books?

I almost gave in to the urge to go over and grope the packages to try to see how many were in there, but the clerk was looking at me.

I'm sure the clerk wouldn't have minded if you checked his package next.

Catherine I'm sure he wouldn't have if she hadn't been an old lady. :P

message 12: by Quinn (new)

Quinn So when are you opening them? I want to know what you got!

message 13: by Sans (new)

Sans Oh. Well, then I'm glad you didn't check her package. ^o^

Catherine I'm very sad that there are no covers for half of them. :( How do I fix that?

message 16: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Walton Grant You just find them online, then import, but you have to be a librarian. (I'm a librarian, want me to see what I can do?)

message 17: by Catherine (last edited Dec 16, 2010 05:00PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Catherine That would be great Tammy!

I've seen a few books that don't have the edition with my cover listed. Is it an easy fix? Do I just post about it on the Librarian group? (I don't have a specific one in mind right now)

message 18: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Walton Grant You can do it either way - post about it on librarian group, or become a librarian yourself - it's easy, the only prerequisite is that you have a certain number of books on your shelves. Once you are, you can edit and add covers to books that you have. If you have a scanner, you can scan your covers and add them that way, otherwise you have to find them online, which is sometimes a challenge!

message 19: by new_user (new)

new_user We must turn over every rock, Catherine! LOL. If I can't find a book I really want, I experience the same frenzy. I hit up all the stores. Must have nao!

Thanks for the info!

Alas, I was left unfulfilled. I just opened the second mystery package and none of them were in there. :(

message 22: by Quinn (new)

Quinn Catherine, I have added covers for some of them, and I think NU has done the same! A Ruling Passion has lots of different covers - what does your edition look like?

Catherine Quinn wrote: "Catherine, I have added covers for some of them, and I think NU has done the same! A Ruling Passion has lots of different covers - what does your edition look like?"

It's red with the author's name across the top in white. There's a gold circle with a silver car in it in the middle-right section, and the title is across the bottom in silver.

message 24: by AH (new) - rated it 4 stars

AH Hmmm...all those books...I guess while you read the books you got, you can order the other book online and by the time you finish about 6 or 7 of them, the new book will arrive.

message 25: by Quinn (new)

Quinn Found it. I've done as many as I can. You'll have to scan the covers of the others probably, unless NU has more luck finding them. Let me know if any of them are the wrong cover.

Hopefully there are some gems in amongst them!

message 26: by Quinn (new)

Quinn Oh, I just saw Tammy had offered to do it! Sorry Tammy, I was having a slow day! Maybe you'll be able to find the ones I couldn't.

Catherine AH wrote: "Hmmm...all those books...I guess while you read the books you got, you can order the other book online and by the time you finish about 6 or 7 of them, the new book will arrive."

I have Amazon Prime so they'll be here in two days. I'm just an instant gratification sort of person. :)

Catherine Thanks, Quinn!

message 29: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Walton Grant No that's ok -- I had just started looking, but didn't hadn't asked Catherine what her versions looked like to compare. I got hung up looking for Apache Dream Bride - you should see what comes up when you google that title!

Catherine Tammy wrote: "No that's ok -- I had just started looking, but didn't hadn't asked Catherine what her versions looked like to compare. I got hung up looking for Apache Dream Bride - you should see what comes up ..."

Do I want to know? ^_^

message 31: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Walton Grant Well, Apache helicopters juxtaposed with tulips, old Indian dudes from the 1800s, a pair of heavily tattooed ladies' feet in some weird slippers....

Surreal. I was hoping for nudity, headdresses and tomahawks.

Catherine Will do! One of my friends, Kajol, recently read them and got me curious about them.

It has a tan-ish background with the shadows of trees. Front and center is a lady with dark brown hair wearing a green/gray cloak with her hand holding the clasp. The guy is behind her, further away and is staring off into the distance looking intense wearing a pirate outfit.
