I bought this on a whim after reading a tweet by a reader that lead to this author. The premise intrigued, an obsession with an old poem and seeking out multiple translations to try and find the one that represents her feeling, while raising babies and donating her breast milk to a cause.

Admittedly I did to the back to read the Caoineadh in its entirety, the little epigrams at the debut of each chapter weren't enough, and so now as Eibhlín Dubh's story is shared, I have a little foreknowledge. I skip back often, I've got my pencil out, I reread the bibliography, translate some of the names, this is experiential reading, if that is not an oxymoron.

Absolutely devouring this and forcing myself to pause, and selectively telling certain people to read it, when I'm only a third the way through. So resonant, so beautifully rendered, there are sentences I could frame, they are stories in themselves. Worth pausing to allow oneself to ponder and enjoy the process. What a find.
