Well it's chapter 3 and the war in Europe is already long over, so clearly I'm also going to need a book just focusing on his time in the Army before and during WWII.

This book was feeling slightly uneven, but then I realized it was because - unlike other biographies - when Ike does something the author doesn't agree with, he's just vocal about it instead of trying to 'find a middle way' or rationalize the decision. Not that the author DOESN'T do that, but he's also like "...yeah, Ike did not handle civil rights well." Refreshing.

I'm going to be honest, I'm 65% done and into Ike's second term before I feel like Hitchcock has really started convincing me that Ike was not asleep at the wheel like this book claimed to do. Is this too much gloss-over? Too much high rhetoric about the "age of Eisenhower" and not enough description of hard fact? I'm still musing.

Hitchcock does *not* like Truman as a president. Which would be fine, if he gave reasons, but he just calls him a sourpuss who has temper tantrums, and sir I just spent Feb-Sept reading my Truman biography, you're going to have to try harder to win me over.
