Just skipped to page 299 because I was getting bored, backtracked a bit and realized Jacob is a bastard. He took Walter's knife, leaving Walter and Camel defenseless when they needed the protection the most. He never helps ANY of his friends or Rosie when they need him. He's a horribly weak character and yet we're supposed to root for him. I'm done.

Meh. Kinda boring. August is a sociopath. Rosie would be adorable is she was in the book more. Nothing makes sense and since no one tells Jacob ANYthing, the reader doesn't know anything either. It's poor writing to leave the main character and the reader completely in the dark about the world the main character is in. It's also annoying. I'm not getting why people love this book.

Really? Is a picture of a chick with her top half hanging out altogether necessary? I don't care if its authentic. Another authentic picture that wasn't crude could have been chosen.

Ok, gratuitous sex scene not needed and I'm no vet, but even I know you don't kill a horse by slitting its throat. Horses are HUGE. They have a TUN of blood and would take forever to die from that. Completely not necessary.

Crud. I'm liking this book and was expecting to not like it at all, based off of the one star reviews I read. The jumps from past to present are jarring, but it's meant to be. It is for Jacob, so it is for the reader too. I'm going to be upset if it gets bad a couple of hundred pages into the book, wasting my time. Again, we'll see.

Not bad so far. It's actually kind of interesting, though sometimes the occasional poor choice of verb tense jars me out of the story. I read quite a few one star reviews, so I'm expecting this to go south soon. We'll see.
