I'm almost done and well...it kinda disappointed towards the end with that usual trope in YA romances. Though, I did like the cuteness. As I had mentioned in the earlier updates, I honestly just see them as great friends so I can't bring myself to ship them together, and consequentially don't care much about the feels.

Jaime and Maya are at that point where everyone automatically assume they're dating but of course, they have already discussed this and they're just friends. Honestly, I don't mind them staying just friends. I think they enjoy each other's company and it's nice to see the level of comfort they share but I can't necessarily ship them strongly enough.

Friends growing apart with distance is one of the most emotional tropes; it hits right at home. I'm glad the story is shifting a little more towards the friendships (whether the building ones or the lost ones) since the political canvassing was pulling me slightly away. I shouldn't be complaining about that, though, since the book is essentially based on teenage political commentary.

Maya's reaction to the Hijabi ban is portrayed with empathy along with that much-needed anger and frustration towards such political moves. Jaime is such a good support, I even like how he keeps an open mind to understand more about Maya's religion (Islam) while understanding his own (Judaism). The grandma who is a social media expert is EPIC. The parents don't have much page-time but well, that's fine.

Maya clearly mentioning she prefers to fast during Ramadan is so good to read because I was growing tired of books with Muslim protagonists who are following fasts under some familial pressure. Anyway, Jaime and Maya are cute together but the political bits (only canvassing has taken place yet) are slightly boring.

I'm already so appreciative of the Muslim, South-Asian rep with the mention of Ramadan, iftar, Ammi, and Eid. Even Jaime's slight social anxiety is being depicted well.
