So much to learn of Afghanistan and it's people that I didn't know. But more importantly so much to learn about the human condition, humanity, and what it reveals in ourselves as I read this story.

Maybe I have not read enough books, consumed enough stories. But, in this one book I have discovered for myself a great writer and storyteller. It reminds me that it is the depth of our reading experience, not the quantity, that counts. I have fallen in this book like a well, swimming in my own emotions and thoughts. I can't help but to believe that I am better off for the experience. Such is the gift of this book.

The writing is gorgeous, touching. Wedding beautiful. A funeral, and a life lived, equally beautiful in a sad way. I feel embarrassed to admit fighting back tears, but I sit in a coffee shop, not a setting for emotion, better in private, with only solitude for a witness.

The scene has shifted from Afghanistan to America. I am continuing to love the storytelling and writing.

This is very touching storytelling. If not, then why do brimming tears tease me so. Beautiful, steep in meaning, yet brutal and sad. Conflicting thoughts and emotions well up. What a great read.
