Watched an interview with McEwan. He noted that Sweet Tooth is about readers and writers, and what is it like to read the writing of someone you know. It's also about reading something that reflects your experience of life vs. something entirely outside of your experience. Serena prefers the former.

This is a novel that requires a close read, and so is slow-going.
