I completed reading this very well written book last week and since then have read the Magna Charta and am now reading another book about Eleanor by Markal.

Anna I misspelled the surname of the author. It is Markale.
This book is about a C- on a four point scale. It is simply a poorly written rehash of everything I have read. I considered closing it and not completing the remainder but somehow I have managed to read half of it.
The main thing that I intensely dislike is that the writer states as fact personal things in the life of Richard that are not necessarily true. It was never proven that Richard was gay and if he was so what! Do not say things that can't be proven. I believe that the passages referred to about this issue were mainly inserted just to titillate the reader. I do have to admit that I like lots of footnotes so that the sources can be verified if one is going to assert such
personal items. I am looking forward to the next book on my summer reading list which may be one of the following: Harold, The Last Anglo-Saxon King by Ian W. Walker, Angevin England 1154-1258 by Richard Mortimer or Richard the Lionheart by Antony Bridge. I have read the last one several times and it is one of my favorites. It is very well written with a good "bib." Anyway, happy reading to all whatever they choose.
