Ree's "What was that?" was added in really well without me seeing it coming. She was thinking about something and then BOOM creepiness. That's the way you do scary ghosts, for sure.

Good, but I'm glad the main story is about Amelia instead.

She had no idea how long she'd been engrossed in the entries when she became aware of a chill. The air-conditioning must have cycled on. The outside windows were frosted and a fusty odor hung in the air, which Ree attributed to the moldy vents.
As she got up to adjust the thermostat, she heard the faint strains of a song.

Trying to switch things up and read an adult series for a change. I'm going to read this prequel first and then start in on the first full novel right after I'm done.

AH This is a series that kind of sneaks up to you in spookiness. You think you're reading a story about the south and then *boo* there's ghosts....

Shannon I can see that happening. I also find it really promising that this prequel has piqued my interest. Normally short stories like this don't do much for me.

AH In a way, the sequel doesn't really go with the books, but in a way it does. It is not necessary to read before the series. Just a nice - it was available.

Shannon Yeah, that's what Laurie told me. And it was free and already on my Kindle (I actually forgot I downloaded it, heh) so I figured I'd just read it first. It's one of those types of prequels that is really just a good first taste of things to come - which I appreciate.
