Poor, clueless, naive Dantes. Never knew what hit him. I gotta say, I'm enjoying this--both the book, and reading it in small chunks. Serials are the way to go.

Ok, I give up. I've made zero progress on this in the past two months (that's what happens when you try reading too many books at once), and I'm 300+ pages behind in the group read. Rather than trying to jump back in and continue where I left off, though, I think I should start over. Refresh my memory. It'll be more exciting that way, I bet.

I've been juggling too many books lately, and The Count keeps getting left behind. Today...I will actually read some of this!

Gah. I'm supposed to read up through Chapter XLVII this week. I'm still on chapter XXXIV. So...only 190 pages and 6 weeks behind. Aha...ha...

The Vampa segment: far more interesting than the history of the Paris sewers. Sorry, Hugo, but Dumas wins this round.

I haven't picked this up in...gosh, over three weeks. Dumas must've slowed down while writing and publishing this, because our group's weekly reading assignments have only covered a chapter or two at a time, and I wanted to read more than that. Now that I'm behind by a few weeks and several chapters, it's time to dive in again. This reading-in-installments method is quite fun.

'And now,' said the stranger, 'farewell, goodness, humanity, gratitude...Farewell all those feelings that nourish and illuminate the heart! I have taken the place of Providence to reward the good; now let the avenging God make way for me to punish the wrongdoer!" Ohoho. Now the fun begins.

Dante has his treasure. Now the games begin. Or something. I've somehow managed to approach this book completely unspoiled, so I have no idea what happens next. Love it!

Dug a long tunnel using makeshift tools, made paper, pens, and ink for writing, created his own candles...if Faria had been on Gilligan's Island, the show would've only lasted six or seven episodes.
