I am struck with how often in this book, descriptions of 1933 Germany in Hitler's first year as chancellor could be substituted for headlines from today with little more than changes of names and dates. Thankfully there are still differences, but the psyche of leadership and maneuverings and manipulations to solidify power are too close for comfort.
