Pg 1698: "If the will of every man were free, that is, if each man could act as he pleased, all history would be a series of disconnected incidents."

Oh my god, am I really going to finish you, you ginormous doorstop of a book?
Yes. Yes, I am.
I'm fascinated to figure how Tolstoy could have anything to say in two epilogues, seeing as nearly everyone has died, Prince Andrew, the old Count, Kutuzov, Lise, Nikolai . . . etc. I suppose the four or five still remaining characters could all marry each other, so like Natasha could get together with Pierre, and so on.

. . . And now Prince Andrew is dying. Poor Natasha, will you never find that love you keep looking for? Will it always prove one step out of reach?
I have a dark feeling the book is going to wrap up in the next 300 pages, before the--TWO, count them--two epilogues, with the majority of the men is this book (similar to Andrew) dying of gunshot wounds to the stomach.

Wow. Looks like I might really do this. What a difference a better translation can make.
Also, I attribute my perseverance to the lengthy Prince Andrew Natasha subplot. I really thought she was going to elope with that Kuragin jackass and end up like other notable female Tolstoy characters. AND NOW WHAT'S THIS-- she's back together with Prince Andrew!!!
I'm super surprised how much I've gotten into it.
