Darn it Tolstoy I understand that you want to put aspects of yourself into your characters, but infecting Nicolas like the symbiote is NOT COOL :( Nicolas would be a great father and great husband in my headcanon, not like Tolstoy. Also Princess Mary is the GOAT for securing the bag on Nicolas at the 13th hour.

Please don't end already :( I swear, this last half of the book flew by way too quickly. Certainly Tolstoy hammers home the same point with many of the chapters (disavowing Great Man Theory), but they were nice reprieves. At least I can always reread this book when I feel like it.

For some reason updating at 17, 38, and 54 percent progress felt fitting, even though they aren't evenly spaced. Hard to believe that 1812 comprises so much of the remaining book, so much left to do and so much history left to happen.

It was hard to keep track of all the names and characters at first, but it has gotten easier as you paint a picture of how all of them relate to each other. I wonder if Pierre will grow a backbone by the end of the novel, or if his good nature alone shall determine his fate, for better or worse.
