“As long as you tell me early enough to make the place settings.” She picked up the serving platter and started arranging muffins. “You know I need to have a definitive number beforehand. I like to know how much food to make.”

I raised an eyebrow. “Because being a serial killer in the first place makes any sense at all? Serial killers thrive on control.”

Funny how someone could be this close to getting splashed in the face with iced coffee and not even realize it.

“Yes, that’s what I said.”
“No, you don’t understand.” I shook my head in bemusement. “Citrus.”
“We know what citrus is, Rainstorm,” Danny said.
“Citrus!” I exclaimed.
“Does citrus mean something different on his planet?” Kevin asked in a whisper.
“I think he’s broken,” Nick said helpfully. “Maybe if someone smacks him, he’ll reboot.”

Danny was toweling me off furiously.
“What the hell are you doing?” I asked.
“What am I doing?” He gave a harsh laugh.
“Yes, I see that.” I looked down at my very damp and very naked body. I was pretty sure I’d gone to bed in pajama bottoms. My parents were one room over, after all. Thou shalt not bare ass it when thy parents are sleeping over. I’m pretty sure that’s in the book of Genesis.
