´Catharting quite merrily’ I’m not sure this word even exists. Doesn’t come up on Google or in the dictionary and there’s a big red line under it as I’m writing this. And now I’ll stop. Because every page there’s something weird an out of place and this it taking me time. Gonna ignore it and just read on. Book needed an editor.

´Claire went for a wee in the big tooth-room’ Weird way to say it. Generally, the whole writing style is weird.

‘The time is bloody well out of bas-trading joint’ Oook.

What is a ‘hell-coat’ Alex was wearing a black faux-fur coat. How is that a ‘hell-coat’? Which I googled by the way. Nothing comes up for ‘hell-coat’

‘Claire was pleased with her haul. Item: tea, one large, grim cardboard of Item: sauce, roll two, gray Item: …´ I don’t get this. Why the change of format? Is that her shopping list? Who writes a shopping list in such a weird language?

´Basher pulled the analogue paper list towards him’ As opposed to a digital paper list?

‘It locked her in an ouroboros of being a shitty person’ It locked her in a loop? This word is so out of place with the language of the rest of the book.

Now I’m keeping these thoughts for when I write a review. The only character I like is Sophie. I am nothing like Sophie but I can feel her pain. Stuck with one boring loser who hangs out with two other boring losers. I feel you girl! Such a sad, sad fate. Let’s go solve some crimes now! Yup, I like her. She’s single-handedly holding up this books rating. The plot is good too. No complaints.

Alex is also a loser, but at least they’re a proud loser. Nothing much to justify them being ‘amazing’ as described in the character diagram at the start of the book. Too much smoking -and I’m a smoker myself- and nothing much else. Not even touching Basher. So basically we got the Loser’s club but a less cool version of it.

Claire is sliiightly unrelatable. Who bins a whole tray of baked stuffed apples because they are oozing delicious stuffing? Eat the darn apples Claire! Claire is also a loser. Couldn’t say I dislike the protagonist but there’s nothing to like either. Maybe she grows further on… dunno.
