I was just⁠—" He lurched toward me, clamped his hand around my nape, and crushed his lips to mine.

“I’ll be sure to pass along a goodbye kiss to her for you.” “Only if you intend to spend eternity in the Shadow Realm,” Zevander said over his shoulder, gnashing his molars at the thought of Ravezio’s lips pressed to hers.

She’d laid down the gauntlet with that dress, daring him to indulge, but kissing her would’ve been the sweetest poison. An intoxicating elixir, as deadly as it was addicting.

“The whims of fate are an irksome intrusion, and yet …” He canted toward me, as if to kiss me, his lips mere inches from mine. “Who could’ve predicted that one touch of your pounding pulse would be so disarming.” Warm breath scattered across my skin, and my heart stuttered with anticipation as he thumbed the curve of my neck. “What wicked spells you weave, little witch.”

The very thought of it, of her, had him breaking into a sweat all over again. Whatever poisonous spell she’d cast over him had stirred a dark and dangerous craving for more.

“Goodnight.” “Goodnight, Lunamiszka.” “Do I still annoy you?” she asked. “Endlessly.”

She was beautiful. No, beautiful was too weak a word. She was intoxicating. Exquisitely divine.

“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to … whatever that was.” “Never apologize for incapacitating your enemy.” “You’re not my enemy, though.”

“Don’t you feel just a small bit of guilt locking me in?” “No.” The obnoxious turn of the key emphasized his point. “Your heart must be the smallest organ you possess.” “And your mouth must be the largest.”

“Perhaps you should walk alongside me, unless you insist on staring at my ass the whole way.” A scorching heat warmed my cheeks, cooled only by the icy anger of having been humiliated. “Perhaps you shouldn’t walk like you’ve got two snapping turtles attached to your ass.”

“Good. Her scent has become absolutely repulsive.” Acids shot up into his throat, and Zevander realized the Nilmirth still hadn’t entirely left his system.

“Why would you go through the trouble of training your prisoner?” “Because you’re weak–” “And repulsive, yes, we’ve established this,” I snipped back, impatiently. “I believe you likened me to a rat.” “Rodent.” “Semantics.”

It's kinda good

Does anyone have issues with Kindle notes & highlights syncing to Goodreads? For some books, Goodreads knows I have them but can’t display them, as if it doesn’t recognize them as mine.

I think this book is one of those you have to take your time with as it seems that I can't read it faster.
Or maybe it's just because the beginning is a bit slow for me. Still, it's really interesting and I'm not bored yet
