My niece was born last week. Finally started reading again. John O’Brien should’ve been involved with the American Canon. More thoughts to follow.

I want to die. But I can’t, people want me around still.

I was told that this was the author’s suicide note to the world; about a man who chooses to commit suicide by drinking himself to death, I find this novel to be very prominent in American Literature… so far. It’s a shame that sadness and alcohol take so many talented writers too soon.

Haven’t read this in years. To my memory, this was one of the first collections of poetry I bought, and one I regret not knowing well enough like other poets. Frank is a treasure.

I’ve read a couple of Bukowski’s poetry collections and was convinced that he was a hack. Can’t seem to not stop reading his poems, when the mood strikes me, and so far have found this collection to be something worth talking about. The poem, “the bluebird,” is definitely Bukowski’s best, and it makes me want to stop in my tracks. The poem radiated with me.

I want to commit suicide.

Today is Jack Kerouac’s birthday. He would’ve never made it to 102. Nor would I expect him to want such an advanced age. His brother Gerard called him Ti Jean until his passing from disease to be sanctified in Jack’s novels and poetry. I usually get very sad for this man, whom I’ve never met, and mourn him all the same. Please read Jack’s work if you would like to know what freedom is like.
