As a matchmaker, I’m constantly learning. My most recent lesson: love is mostly like the moon. Whereas the moon and all its phases are predictable, love is not.

In the end, gravity always finds us, bringing us right back where we belong.

His face relaxes into a dimpled smile. “If I didn’t make it clear enough before, I love you.” A wide smile spreads across my face. “I love you too.”

“My love for you is fuller than the fullest moon,” I whisper to Po’Po, stealing one last look at her.

I am sobbing listening to the audio and my heart is breaking for Olivia and at the same time full at the love between Olivia and her Po’Po June.

Liv,” Po’Po says, “you are worthy of love. Let people in. Your heart is stronger than you think. And always remember that I am so proud of you.” She cradles my face in her hand and looks intensely into my eyes. In this simple act, it’s as though she can sense all my worries and fears and wants and desires that are deeply imbedded in me. “You were never and will never be, a disappointment.”

He pulls back to look at me, his eyes a shade darker. I memorize the lines and curves of his face. If Bennett’s the ocean, I’m already in too deep. No life raft can save me now. This riptide pulls me farther and farther out to sea until I can hardly see the shore <3

It’s as though Bennett’s the painter and I’m the canvas; every kiss a stroke of the brush, revealing, little by little, the unexpected masterpiece that is our embrace.
