REALLY hard to put down!!

Took for-freakin-ever to get off the ground, but we finally have a decent story.

The oldest boy in the dormitory tried to bully ‘The dunny mute’, so Dalston thumped him and made his nose bleed. The bully had been moved to another block. Later, Joe slipped him a note. He had drawn two arrows, and when he held it in a certain way, they pointed one to him and one to Dalston. Between them was a knotted rope and their friendship tightened from that day on.

Finally gettin' an interesting story!

‘Yeah, you can't hear me, and I'm talking too…’ What was the point of saying anything? He might as well walk away. They looked at each other, waiting for the other to signal something. What fascinated him was how he drew his words.

A book, a gift for what may have been his twelfth birthday, and now an interesting new boy to get to know. It was a special day for many reasons, and they all led to Joe.

Way too much precisely detailed description and imagery of literally every building, every room, every article of clothing that every character is wearing, everything they are eating, etc. ... leave something to the reader's imagination, Mr. Marsh. A third of the way in and not much has happened. Also, Dalston is NOT the idiot you seem to think he is, Mr. Marsh ... so unrealistic! REALLY need to pick up the pace!

Dalston wanted to say he already was.

Yes, Fleet, you absolutely are!😣 It's highly annoying and you are totally ruining this for me! So far, this has all the earmarks of an author becoming quite pretentious after his 'Clearwater' success.

it’s not all random. the universe takes care of its most fragile creations in ways we can’t see. like with parents who adore you blindly and a big sister who feels guilty for being human over you and a little kid whose friends have left him over you and a pink-haired girl who carries your picture in her wallet. the universe makes it all even out in the end. the universe takes care of all its birds.
