They were formed to help regulate the naturally occurring abilities humans and demons had in their systems. And to stop dark magic. Specifically, necromancy. Which I was now brimming with. If one of those implanted wrist charms went off while I was close by, I’d be thrown into a cell. Not how I wanted to spend my afternoon. I had a fish at home that needed me and apparently a vampire losing his goddamn mind.

“With you.”

“No.” I pointed at the seat he had just risen from. “Park your undead ass and wait here quietly. And don’t eat anyone.”

He sat back down, annoyed with me, and didn’t press the issue further. I felt like a parent that had just won an argument with an angsty teenager.
