I've been phasing out Fae books for a bit. They all kind of read the same with the same character brands but Servant of Earth feels different. The Fae are actually manipulative, cruel, and selfish. They don't like humans and Kenna is stuck living with them until she can find a way out of their world.

I'm not sure if I'm enjoying this book or not. I think I am but I'm also feeling old reading this. I've been phasing out YA contemporary for a while and I think once I'm done with the ones I have I might not read the genre anymore. I love YA fantasy but the contemporary ones are becoming more misses than hits.

The story feels like the author was forced to write a YA book but wanted to write an adult story. It's not bad but there's a weird feeling of holding back or of being restrained by YA rules. This would have been a great adult fantasy.

It's an insta-love / insta-attraction romance 🫣 I'm not really a big fan of it, so we'll see how this one goes...

I feel like if you're going to read this book, you have to go into it thinking that it's just going to be pure entertainment and no substance. I'm enjoying the entertainment factor, but I'm missing the character depth and the world-building/development. It's super simple. Also, there's an insta-love with no chemistry...so yay 😑

And another thing... I'm not sure I like Kian either. Why couldn't Daerick be the love interest? At least he's interesting and has personality. Why does it always have to be the 'shadow daddy'... *cringes inwardly for even saying that 🤮*

I'm not sure if I like Cerise. So Cerise is supposed to be a very sheltered woman so her knowledge of certain things is limited... but how sheltered do you have to be to be so nonchalant about some random person sneaking into your room x2 while being asleep and congratulating your puppy for "scaring" off the person??? She doesn't do anything about it. No alerting anyone, no going after the person etc 😑

I've DNF'd quite a few Red Tower books. They have more misses than hits for me but I'm enjoying The Half King so far and I'm hoping I continue to like it.

I think Emily Henry is becoming a new-to-me favorite author.

Library read - I think I might like this one more than The Boyfriend but it's a slim margin. I do like how easy and fast paced McFadden stories are.

Only reading this one on my work computer and I'm enjoying it like her other books 😊 it's very good so far.

It's pretty much your quintessential fake romance, enemies to lovers, fantasy romance book. I'm really liking it so far.

I really hope this doesn't have a stupid 3rd Act Break-up Scene because I'm enjoying this book a lot.

I've been in a terrible slump, but I think Funny Story might pull me out of it.

Taking a break on this one. Not DNFing just in the mood for something else. Also a bunch of library books became available sooooo....

So far my impression is that this will be a 3 or 3.5 star read. It's very cute and humorous too.

Apparently, Goodreads thinks this book is 950 pages. It's 373, guys 🤦‍♀️

THERE'S SO MUCH (almost too much) DETAIL ABOUT THE HOUSE 🥴 I appreciate the details, but I'm going to forget everything later. I really wish there was a map of the house on the endpapers or an added page. Hopefully the sequel will add it.
