Chap 6 - Aoi finds a Drunken Tengu Lord and brings him in and kindly gets him to eat. She shares who she is and she learns her gpa saved him from drowning and extorted a reward, lol. The next day he returns and wants to take Aoi away, she refuses of course but it smooths over his anger at the inn. He suggests she open a restaurant! She also meets Kasuga a raccoon girl.

Wow... a reeeeeeeeaaaaaaaalllllllyyyyyyy long end. Almost too long honestly. I do like how it’s resolved. I would have liked to know what happened to Kay!

.Lexi tries to save Xand... from herself!

Lexi has become deeply involved and Prince looks to head her off with Josh and a changeling army. Josh will become one of them soon...

Lexi is so lucky that Knesia wanted to save her!! Wow... of the two girls I relate more to Lexi... but I really love their friendship.

When their faces float up in my inner vision, I send them streaming out of focus, fringy and smeared and wet.

We meet a 2nd girl who lives underground in a secret refuge for books. She sneaks out to help M who was wounded. Almost gets caught but realizes her father used to be a prisoner.

I really like M, he’s truly a good kid... I wonder what his message is... the poor baby died! Who killed her?!

Hmmm pretty dreary world but does feel French like...

and E and his guilt... soooooooooooo tired of that by the end when I didn’t really feel a bond between him and his brother anyway... “you don’t need to say it E” hell yeah you do and more than that MAX needs to say it.
I get the intention behind the story and really love it but the execution wasn’t working for me to FEEL it like I wanted to.

I also kind of get that Max loved being there so he wanted to stay... but at risk of NEVER returning home? He had no ability to get away like E did... I guess I’ll go with that though it feels wrong to me...

Awww I hate to say it but I wasn’t a fan of the end either... sigh ... the inclusion of Marc was a great way to supply the group with everything they need... I mean he even had changes of clothes for E when he stupidly took his bag swimming when he should have left it to be teleported. And he suddenly could learn the language without even the book E had to study from.

Back on earth is sooooo boring... and the info dumping is terrible 😖 we get the team read in after E and they get the okay to go to France to find the original tunnel ... all due to the magnificent Lily who is sooooo perfect. I’m actually getting sick of E too with all his guilt over his perfect brother! Rolls eyes.

At 45% something unexpected happens and the real story starts!!! I actually even feel a smidgen of sympathy for Lily a character I have come to intensely dislike... something is going on with Max and really it makes me roll my eyes because I don’t like him either... but at least I’m curious!! This is mega strides for this book...!

Oh thank goodness! I found this incredibly boring until 45% ... I realize I’m not cut out to read about spies and the like... and I find it really hard to relate to 2 of the 3 MCs... and I don’t particularly like the 3rd character’s reasoning behind his actions... I wasn’t worried at all about the FBI so felt no tension in events and I hate the romance... BUT...

Chap 33 - Masoh passes the day before they arrive... he visits Kuchiba right before... teasing him helped him to feel his life was lived. I totally cried! They arrive only to be seen as an enemy even though the guy sees his brother’s ship aboard the mud whale... GAHHH So good...

Chap 32 - we check in with diverse people of the mud whale... Suoh and chakuro check on Ouni who is staying away from people... the muscle guy is fading... the woman he likes kisses him and he comes back... they are on a time limit though...

Chap 31 - we learn a lot about Orca this chap... his past and his plans for the future... his love and his motivation for taking the mud whale.

Chap 30 - the twins learn what the others know about Ouni and try to spur him to take out the unmarked... the commander comes and Ouni tells him he knows he’ll eventually destroy the mud whale... they are close to the new country and Lykos brother starts to move...

Chap 29 - the walls of the room melt and they barely get out before the way is closed. Ouni power goes berserk slicing things, the major barely brings him back. The elder explains the end of Miden and his mother... they both die despite their good intentions. She was happy to return to the traitor...

This is fascinating and like a thriller and mental health mixed up with fae!

Soooo fun!!! I loved this and can’t wait for the next book!

Oh my... I love this book so much... the world, being dropped in the middle of the action. The spilt narrative that explains her history. Taurok and his way! What a problem they are in now!

GAHHHHH I’m loving these two... she’s so freaking cool and I just love Taurok too... the info dumping was all in the prologue, very good plan!

I DO really like E and his attitude about his brother... he earned my sympathy right from the get go even if he is wrong about Max. I also love the kids’ abilities, they are all unique but make sense to who they are (not Lily sorry). I like that E confronts Max about changing the chemistry of things and that E Ran when he learned things were hitting the fan for Max.

And for some reason I really hate Lily... she basically is playing the role a token adult would play in this team like situation and I just don’t buy her. She’s too perfect and always right. I’m all for women’s rights and being smart but come on... too perfect is too perfect...

I really want to love this book but it has a lot of holes making that hard...

And honestly... as cops, FBI whatever they’d look at the ADULT first... doesn’t matter what Max knows... they’d just assume this catatonic kid OVERHEARD the real criminal. It makes more sense than that a 12 year old took chemicals, told people about it and have them stashed away where no one can find them. A judge would have laughed the DA out of court.

GAAAAAAHHHHH I’m just not buying this whole arrest Max deal... and why all of a sudden is he speaking when it’s the worst possible moment? E even said he hadn’t heard him speak for a long time but all of a sudden he’s talking all the time?

Wow that last con job was soooo good! That Alison though... Jack’s gonna wish she didn’t get away...
